Several Pokémon have been temporarily owned by Team Rocket in the Pokémon anime.

Pokémon temporarily owned by James

James's Gyarados
Gyarados
James purchased his Gyarados as a Magikarp on the St. Anne. While on the ocean liner, the Magikarp salesman tricked him into buying what he said was a valuable Magikarp inside a gold Poké Ball. Jessie told James that Magikarp is a completely useless Pokémon, and Meowth informed James that the Poké Ball was only gold-plated.

When the St. Anne sank, James tried using Magikarp to help them escape, but it only made their situation worse. After finally making it to the surface, Meowth tried to take a bite out of it. His teeth broke off from the hard skin, and James, angry at how useless it was, kicked it into the ocean. The kick caused Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados. Using Dragon Rage, James' Gyarados and several other Gyarados sent Team Rocket, Ash and his friends flying. James' Gyarados was never seen again.

Gyarados' known moves are Splash and Dragon Rage.

James's Pikachu
Pikachu
Pikachu is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its appearance was during the final portion of the exam.

James of Team Rocket sent it out to battle the instructor's Graveler, at which James was overjoyed, exclaiming that he had been destroyed by Pikachu's attacks so many times that he knew them all by heart. However, Pikachu's Thunderbolt had no effect on the Graveler, at which James sent out Ivysaur and Charizard, and subsequently was expelled on the spot. He later used Pikachu to attack the instructor with Thunder, but the instructor told Ivysaur, Charizard, and Pikachu to attack Team Rocket instead.

Pikachu's known moves are Thunderbolt and Thunder.

James's Ivysaur
Ivysaur
Ivysaur is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its appearance was during the final portion of the exam.

James of Team Rocket sent it out along with Charizard to battle the instructor's Graveler. However, since two against one was against the rules, James was expelled on the spot. He later used Ivysaur to attack the instructor, but the instructor told Ivysaur, Charizard, and Pikachu to attack Team Rocket instead.

Ivysaur's only known move is Vine Whip.

Victreebel
In the episode Here's Lookin' at You, Elekid, James is pushed into trading his old Victreebel for a Weepinbell by Jessie and Meowth after the Magikarp salesman cons them by saying they can use its Sweet Scent to capture Pokémon.

Later in the episode this Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel, and it tries to gobble Jessie (much like the previous Victreebel did with James). This causes her to command her Arbok to send the Flycatcher Pokémon flying. At the same time the Magikarp salesman realizes that James' original Victreebel will not obey him, and he kicks it away. The two Victreebel meet, fall in love, and skip off into the forest.

Victreebel's known moves are Sweet Scent, Razor Leaf and Vine Whip.

James's Hoppip
Hoppip
James bought Hoppip from the Magikarp salesman in Who's Flying Now?. It was painted to look like a Chimecho, which James had wanted since he was a child. James recognized the salesman, but he was able to convince James that he had turned over a new leaf and was now an honest person. Believing him, James bought the Hoppip in disguise.

When he showed it to Jessie and Meowth, they were less than impressed with the Chimecho. Meowth immediately realized it was a fake, and when it started falling apart, James rubbed it with a rag. All the paint came off, and the Chimecho was revealed to be a fake. Before James could do anything, the Hoppip floated away, never to be seen again.

Debut Who's Flying Now?
James's Aggron
Aggron
In Grating Spaces!, Delibird gave Jessie and James two Poké Balls containing a Charizard and an Aggron. Excited at having two strong Pokémon, they decided to use them to attack the Pewter Gym and steal the gym's Poké Balls. When they entered, they challenged Brock and Ash to a double battle.

Using their Donphan and Steelix, the two friends tried to defeat Team Rocket's newly acquired Pokémon. However, the Aggron and Charizard were stronger and gained an early advantage. The battle was ended when Max discovered that the two Trainers were indeed Team Rocket in disguise. With the help of Forrest, Team Rocket were sent blasting off and Pewter Gym was safe.

At the end of the day, Delibird returned and took the two Pokémon back, as the Charizard and Aggron were originally intended for Cassidy and Butch, respectively. Before Team Rocket could question what it was doing, it was gone, and Aggron and Charizard haven't been seen since.

Aggron's known moves are Mega Punch, Hyper Beam and Water Pulse.

Giant's Hitmonlee
Hitmonlee
Hitmonlee is a Pokémon that belongs to a man known only as "Giant", and is his only known Pokémon. It was seen walking with Giant before Jessie tied him up and used Hitmonlee during the tournament. Hitmonlee's first match in the tournament was Brock's Geodude, but due to it taking a lot of damage, Brock threw in the towel. Hitmonlee later defeated a Machoke and Anthony's Hitmonchan, though unfairly. Hitmonlee, however, got defeated by Primeape under Ash's and Anthony's guidance. It is unknown if Hitmonlee was returned to Giant.

Jessie's Shellder
Shellder
Shellder's only appearance was in The Evolution Solution. Giovanni had ordered Jessie and James to dig for clams on the beach of Seafoam Islands. James hit something with his shovel, and yanked it out of the ground, revealing it to be a Shellder. James sent out his Weezing to battle it. Shellder hit hard with Ice Beam, while Weezing knocked it out with Haze. James was going to throw a Poké Ball at it, but Jessie beat him to it, capturing Shellder. James complained about this, as it was his Weezing that weakened the Shellder. Later on, Jessie and James attempted to steal all the Pokémon at Professor Westwood V's lab, but found that all he had was a Slowpoke. In the hopes that a Slowbro would prove more valuable to Giovanni, Jessie sent out Shellder and ordered it to clamp down on Slowpoke's tail. However, Westwood's Slowpoke avoided the Shellder with a truly surprising amount of speed. After some misdirected Clamps (including Psyduck's head and tail, the former enabling Psyduck to remove the Bivalve Pokémon with Confusion), Shellder finally clamped down on Slowpoke's tail, causing it to evolve into Slowbro. Team Rocket tried to steal it, but Slowbro sent them blasting off again with Mega Punch (after using Amnesia to temporarily forget it). After this episode, neither Shellder nor the Slowbro were seen again.

Jessie's Magikarp
Magikarp
Magikarp's only appearance came in Pearls are a Spoink's Best Friend. After stealing Spoink's pearl, Team Rocket came across the Magikarp salesman who convinced Jessie to trade the pearl for what he claimed to be a Feebas. Jessie was reluctant at first until the salesman explained to her that Feebas evolve into Milotic, after which Jessie eagerly made the trade, despite the protests of James and Meowth.

Later, Team Rocket was seen at a lake letting Jessie's "Feebas" swim around in a stream. The paint started to run, and soon it was revealed that the Feebas was actually a Magikarp. This discovery infuriated Jessie, and Team Rocket sought out the salesman to demand a refund. When they found the salesman, Ash and his friends were already there. A battle between Cacnea and Dustox against Pikachu and Spoink ensued, during which the salesman escaped, and Magikarp was completely lost track of. Team Rocket was defeated in the end and the pearl was returned to Spoink. The Magikarp has never been seen again so it is believed not to belong to Jessie anymore.

Charizard
Jessie obtained Charizard in Grating Spaces! when Delibird gave her and James two Poké Balls. When they learned the Poké Balls contained a Charizard and an Aggron, they decided to use them to take over Pewter Gym and steal the Gym's Poké Balls.

Using their disguises, they challenged Brock and Ash to a double battle. Team Rocket sent out their newly acquired Pokémon, while Brock and Ash sent out their Steelix and Donphan, respectively. Unfortunately, Team Rocket got an early advantage and appeared to be winning. The victory was short-lived when Max discovered Meowth stealing all of the Gym's Poké Balls. It was then revealed that the two were indeed Team Rocket. With the help of Forrest, they were sent blasting off.

At the end of the day, Delibird returned to take the Poké Balls back, as the Charizard and Aggron were originally intended for Cassidy and Butch, respectively. Before Team Rocket could plead with Delibird to return them, it had flown away.

The trio then hears Aipom crying and rush to find it, not realizing it belongs to Ash. Spotting the Pokémon atop a precipice, Jessie decides to save the monkey Pokémon. Upon seeing how she helped his Pokémon, Ash reluctantly thanked Jessie. Jessie decided to use the situation to her advantage, and asked the twerp if she could use Aipom in the contest. Ash believed Aipom didn't want to, but Aipom actually did, which Meowth seconds. Ash decides to let it happen, though reluctantly. The duo eventually win the contest, besting Dawn's then-inexperienced Pachirisu.

When the Team takes off in the Meowth balloon, Aipom takes off with them, hoping to grab the fruit for herself. After Team Rocket unsuccessfully try to stop her, Ash tells Aipom to use Swift on the balloon, blasting them off. Aipom then returns to her Trainer, and the episode ends.

Team Rocket's Porygon
Porygon
Porygon was a prototype created by Dr. Akihabara and stolen by Team Rocket. It was also called "Porygon Zero" in the episode. Ash and his friends borrowed a non-prototype Porygon to go inside the computer world to find it. When they encountered the trio, Team Rocket sent out Porygon to battle Ash and friends, complete with its own "TR" flag on its tail.

Sadly, when the vaccine was released by Nurse Joy, one of them hit Team Rocket, knocking Porygon unconscious. When fleeing Dr. Akihabara's ruined house, they left Porygon behind for reasons unknown.

Because its only appearance was in an episode that aired only once in the world, it is the only Pokémon owned by a main character at some point that virtually no longer exists even in Japan, and the only Pokémon owned by a main character to have never been seen officially outside of Japan.

Porygon's only known move is Sharpen.

Debut Computer Soldier Porygon
Team Rocket's Delibird
Delibird
Main article: Delibird (Team Rocket)

Delibird first appeared in Dues and Don'ts under the ownership of a Rocket Scout. She claimed that she and the Delibird were trying to recruit new members for Team Rocket. When Jessie and James told her that they were Team Rocket members, she said that they weren't in the system. James pulled out his membership card, and the scout informed them that because they hadn't paid any of their dues, they had been kicked out of Team Rocket.

The scout then told them that if they defeated a Trainer, they would be allowed back in. Using Delibird, Team Rocket battled Ash, and despite the fact that he won, the scout allowed them to rejoin. But she also told them that her Delibird would be following them around to collect their dues that they had still not paid.

While it appears the Delibird has stopped pestering the trio for their dues, it still appears from time to time as a courier, as seen in Grating Spaces and The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!.

Trivia

  • Four of these Pokémon were obtained from the Magikarp salesman.
  • Jessie's Shellder was the first and only pokemon to evolve into a form it can't in the games, as when it used Clamp on a Slowpoke's tail, it evolved into a Slowbro, although it is mentioned in the descriptions of Slowpoke in the games.
