There is also a mailbox function on your PC to store mail as well as a "Decoration" option. Right now if you select "Decoration" all that will come up is BED and POSTER. If you choose to let your mom save money for you (which will be an option later in the game) she will buy things for your room, which will be stored here. Lastly, the TURN OFF option will shut down your PC.

After you are done with the PC, go downstairs and speak to your mom. She will walk up to you when you go downstairs. She tells you Professor Elm has something he wants you to do for him. Before you go, mom gives you your PokéGear. She then asks you what the day of the week is and if it is Daylight Savings. She asks if you know how to use the phone on your PokéGear, if you don't say no.

Professor Elm's Lab
Once you get to his lab, Professor Elm tells you he is doing some new Pokémon research right now and he needs your help. He wants you to raise a Pokémon he recently caught. Answer Yes to his question and he will thank you. Before you get a Pokémon, Elm receives an email from a Mr. Pokémon. He wants you to go and see what it is the Mr. Pokémon wanted him to check out since he is too busy to go himself. Choose from these three Pokémon:
The PC in the corner acts as your PC. Since each pocket on your Pack can only hold 20 different items, it would be necessary to use or discard some before obtaining anything new. The PC can hold up to 50 different items. Deposit Item and Withdraw Item allow for moving items between inventory and storage, while Toss Item discards an item permanently. There is also a Mailbox function to store pieces of Mail, as well as a Decoration option.

To save the game, press Start to open the main menu, select Save, and then Yes. When the menu disappears, your progress is saved and it is safe to exit the game.

Cyndaquil is the strongest of the three starter Pokémon. It has advantages against Gym 2, 6, and 7.  Cyndaquil is the easiest to use in the game and its final form is is extremely powerful!
To go downstairs, step on the stairs in the northeast corner of the room.

Mom is sitting at the table, and tells you that Professor Elm has been looking for you. Before you can leave, she tells you that your Pokégear is back from the repair shop. This device initially acts as a clock, but can perform other functions with the necessary expansion cards. Mom helps you finish setting up the Clock function by asking about the day of the week and Daylight saving time.

Chikorita is the most difficult Pokémon to raise in the game because of its multitude of weaknesses in the gyms. It is weak to the first two gyms and the seventh gym. It has no real advantages in the gyms either, making it a choice for an experienced player. If you choose Chikorita be prepared to build a supportive team around it.
To leave the house, step on the floor mat along the south wall and press Down on the +Control Pad.

The Spy
Silver can be seen peering into Elm's Lab through a side window. If you try to speak to him, he shoves you back before returning to the window.

Totodile is in the middle between Cyndaquil and Chikorita. It has some minor advantages in the gyms and no major weaknesses in the gyms. Totodile is a pretty average Pokémon so if you like Water types, its still a good choice.
Professor Elm's Lab
Professor Elm has a favor to ask of you. A friend of his, nicknamed Mr. Pokémon, studies Pokémon as a hobby and regularly contacts the professor about his findings. Elm suggests that these discoveries are not usually as exciting as his friend makes them out to be, but believes that this time is different. However, he and his aides are busy with their research, so he asks that you go in his place. To accompany you on the trip, he lets you choose one of his rare Pokémon. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, so simply choose the one that you like the best.

After you pick, Professor Elm will explain how to get to Mr. Pokémon's house. He will also give you his number just in case.

To Mr. Pokémon's House
* The Grass Chikorita does well against Water-, Rock-, and Ground Pokémon. It also has the most weaknesses of the trio, with five: Fire-, Flying-, Bug-, Poison-, and Ice attacks. Chikorita may struggle early on, making it better suited for those looking for a challenge.
* The Fire Cyndaquil is great when battling Grass-, Bug-, Ice-, and Steel Pokémon, but is vulnerable to Water-, Rock-, and Ground moves. Cyndaquil's typing gives it an easier time in the early part of the game, making it a good choice for less experienced Trainers.
* The Water Totodile has an advantage when facing Fire-, Rock-, and Ground Pokémon, but may struggle against Grass- and Electric attacks. It is the most well-rounded of the trio.

Leave Professor Elm's house (After receiving a potion from his assistant) and go left to Route 29. I suggest you battle wild Pokémon along the way to build up experience for your first gym battle, which will be soon after your go to Mr. Pokémon's House for Professor Elm. Once you get to Cherrygrove City heal your Pokémon. The old man at the entrance to the city will show you around the town and give you a map for your PokéGear. After leaving Cherrygrove go north all the way up to Mr. Pokémon's.  He gives you a List of key items in Generation II when you get there! Professor Oak is also there and gives you a Pokédex to use on your journey. When you leave Mr. Pokémon's house Professor Elm calls you and is apparently in danger. Go to Professor Elm's lab right away!
After choosing your first partner Pokémon, Professor Elm asks if you would like to give it a nickname, which may be up to ten characters long. Elm informs you that Mr. Pokémon lives a short distance from Cherrygrove City, to the west of New Bark Town. He invites you to return at any time and use his PC to heal your Pokémon, and gives you his phone number to register in your Pokégear. As you leave the building, his aide gives you a Potion.

This particular variety restores a Pokémon's HP by 10 points. Berries may be used by a Trainer, or consumed by a Pokémon during battle. Giving a natural item like this to a Pokémon to hold will let it use the item when it sees fit. Pokémon are unfamiliar with artificial items like Potions and cannot use them on their own. Berries grow back over time, so revisit the same tree the next day to find another one.

Red-Haired Kid?
As you are leaving Cherrygrove, a red haired kid bumps in to you and he wants to battle! I hope you healed your Pokemon. His name shows up as ??? and later you will be asked to "name" him. Win or lose, he takes off when the battle is over.
