Trivia

- In the anime, Kakuna has been shown evolving more than any other Pokémon.
- In the anime, Kakuna have never been seen using any attacks (not even Harden).
- In Pokémon Platinum, Kakuna can learn Bug Bite by evolution from Weedle, despite not having a visible mouth.
Origin
Its design appears to be based a chrysalis or the larval stage of a bee.
Name origin
Its name is just a corruption of the word cocoon, and in the case of its Japanese name, it is the word itself.
