16 is a quiet road, and the northern end of Cycling Road. Two new Pokémon species—the Fire Slugma and the Murkrow—can be found here. Slugma can be found at all hours, while Murkrow only appears at night.
16 links Celadon City to 17. The road southward to Fuchsia City can be dangerous for pedestrians, so be sure to bring a Bicycle.

17 is Cycling Road itself, stretching between 16 in the north and 18 in the south. The place is a favorite hangout spot for Bikers, and Pokémon like Grimer and Slugma can be found in the tall grass.
The bridges of 17 pass over the ocean on the way downhill to 18. Anyone riding a Bicycle on Cycling Road who decides to stop pedaling will continue rolling southward.

Fuchsia City's unique tourist attraction, the Kanto, has closed because the Warden is traveling. The exhibits outside the building have fallen into disrepair, and the exotic Pokémon have wandered off to the surrounding areas. The only thing left to do is challenge the local Gym.

The Poison-specialist Fuchsia Gym is the same ninja training ground that it always has been, complete with invisible walls. However, Koga's promotion to the Elite Four left a vacant Gym Leader position, a title now held by his daughter, Janine. She and her Gym Trainers are adept at disguise, dressing alike to conceal the Gym Leader's true location. Psychic attacks will see the greatest effectiveness, but as many of the Pokémon here are part-Grass or part-Ground as well, they are also vulnerable to Fire and Water moves, respectively. As Janine is still inexperienced, her Pokémon's levels have only reached the 30s, so almost any attack from your battle-tested team can take them out quickly. Look out for Toxic, Confuse Ray, and Explosion, and cure status ailments as soon as possible.

The Fuchsia Gym specializes in Poison Pokémon. Poison-type moves are super effective against Grass Pokémon, while Poison-type Pokémon are weak to Ground- and Psychic moves.

The Gym Leader is trained in the skills of the ninja, and has installed a series of nearly invisible glass panels to disorient any challengers. In addition, each of the Gym Trainers has disguised themselves as the Gym Leader. Follow the east wall toward the back of the building, then loop around toward the front. The Gym Leader is located in the southwest part of the building.

Route 16

Route 16

Route 16 links Celadon City to Route 17. The road southward to Fuchsia City can be dangerous for pedestrians, so be sure to bring a Bicycle.

Route 17

Route 17

The bridges of Route 17 pass over the ocean on the way downhill to Route 18. Anyone riding a Bicycle on Cycling Road who decides to stop pedaling will continue rolling southward.

Route 18

Route 18

Route 18 leads east from Route 17 to Fuchsia City.

Fuchsia City

Fuchsia City

Fuchsia City is the largest city in southern Kanto, located between Route 18 and Route 15. To the south, a beach leads to the waters of Route 19. Trainers aiming to earn their next Badge can challenge the Fuchsia Gym in the southwest.

Safari Zone Warden's house

The southeastern house belongs to the Safari Zone warden. According to his granddaughter, he closed the Safari Zone rather suddenly and left to vacation somewhere overseas. Many saw this as a disappointing development, as residents and tourists alike would visit the nature preserve for their chance at catching some of the rare Pokémon inside. The northern part of the city was once occupied by exhibits that housed rare Pokémon, as well, but they have since fallen into disrepair and the Pokémon have wandered off into the surrounding wilderness.

Leader: Janine

The Poisonous Ninja Master

The Fuchsia Gym specializes in Poison-type Pokémon. Poison-type moves are super effective against Grass-type Pokémon, while Poison-type Pokémon are weak to Ground- and Psychic-type moves.

Janine's Pokémon use poisoning and confusion to incapacitate their opponent. Her Crobat is fast, so hit it with Psychic-, Electric-, Ice-, or Rock-type attacks to take it down quickly. Both of her Weezing are dangerous, as Toxic badly poisons the target, and Explosion is a last-ditch move that deals massive damage. Their phsycial Defense is high, so use Psychic-type moves to target their lower Special Defense instead. Ariados can lower the target's Speed and steal its HP for itself, while Venomoth prefers to use poison- and confusion-inducing moves. As Bug Pokémon, both take serious damage from Fire-, Rock-, and Flying-type attacks.

Soul Badge

After the battle, Janine awards you the Soul Badge. She also hands out TM06 (Toxic) as a prize.

Road Closed

The ocean route leading southward is blocked by rocky debris. According to the guard in the gate, these boulders landed here as a result of Cinnabar Island's volcano erupting. The only other way out of Fuchsia City is east to Route 15.
