Recurring items are any items the player may receive indefinitely, excluding items bought at stores(...?)
- items held by wild Pokémon and items held by Trainers*?
(from Item:) Recurring items on the ground are quite rare within the Pokémon series. Although multiple items can be bought at Poké Marts, finding items on the ground repeatedly in the same place is decidedly the exception to the rule in the Pokémon games. Generation I had no known places where there were recurring items. Generation II introduced Apricorn trees and Berry trees, on which new Apricorns and Berries would grow every day; however, there were still no known places of re-occurring items on the ground.
(candidate:) Generation II introduced Apricorn trees and Berry trees, on which new Apricorns and Berries would grow every day. Generation III advanced the idea of Berries, but simultaneously changed their mechanics significantly, so that Berry trees no longer gave Berries forever, untended and on a universal schedule. In the meantime, Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald tentatively introduced the first on-the-ground recurring items in Shoal Cave. Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen would then go on to introduce two entire areas, Treasure Beach and Berry Forest, that featured multiple items on the ground that regenerated after a certain number of steps. Generation IV continued with more of the same, with recurring items basically limited to special places. Generation V, however, introduced a few recurring items spread around several areas throughout Unova, like mushrooms that might regrow (vaguely recalling Apricorns and Berries from Generation II) and valuables that might wash up on beaches. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 took it a step further with Hidden Grottoes, which are areas found in many locations that all have a small chance to regenerate items after 256 steps.
(There are no recurring items in Red and Blue (and Yellow?).)
