This is a list of overworld glitches in Generation V games.

Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2

Castelia Street NPC oversight

In Castelia City's Castelia Street, if the player rides a Bicycle lengthwise from one end of the street to another without changing direction or stopping, the player will appear to pass through the passerby NPCs on the same gridline instead of the NPC stepping aside.

Driftveil City short bridge error

When the player stands on certain tiles to the right of the bridge (or on it) connecting a small island and the main part of Driftveil City, the tiles that presents a raised wall, which are parallel to the main part of the bridge, will turn black.

Floccesy Town building oversight

In Floccesy Town and viewable from Route 20, there are two buildings to the north near Alder's house. While the left building is on the ground, the right building is slightly off the ground. This causes its shadow to also be slightly off the ground.

Forest exit oversight

If Repel runs out or an Egg hatches when the player is facing and adjacent to the exit of a Hidden Grotto or a connection from a Forest Clearing in the Entree Forest (but not the Deepest Clearing), the door immediately in front of the player acts as a wall tile. If the player faces a different direction, the door will function again.

Gear Station oversight

When returning to Gear Station after riding a train from a location other than Gear Station, the location name "Gear Station" is not displayed until entering the center of the station, despite the platform itself being considered to be Gear Station by the game. This includes when the player reaches the rest area after seven wins in a row, since it is considered to be the Battle Subway by the game, but all other parts of the Battle Subway do not trigger this.

Icirrus Gym oversight

In Icirrus Gym, there are three rocks which are not solid—they can be walked on. Using one of these rocks, in Black and White, it is possible to reach Brycen without battling Black Belt Thomas.

Music memory oversight

If the player goes below the first floor in the Dreamyard, Wellspring Cave, Chargestone Cave or Challenger's Cave, the music will usually play with a lower pitch and tempo. This is deliberate and is meant to set the atmosphere. However, if the player saves and resets, the music will play as if the player was on the top floor.

Variable scoring is not affected by this.

Music speed oversight

When the player uses Dig or an Escape Rope while cycling (cycling music must be playing) or surfing while below the first floor in Wellspring Cave, Chargestone Cave or Challenger's Cave and travels to Pinwheel Forest, Moor of Icirrus or the Desert Resort, the music will play with a lower pitch and tempo, as if the player was in an underground floor. Reentering the affected area will revert the music back to normal, as will surfing or using the bicycle.

Nimbasa City light oversight

At the path in Nimbasa City leading to the Join Avenue/Nimbasa Gate, there are several lights on the ground. Usually when the player steps on these their shadow appears under the lights; however, when stepping on the light closest to the Join Avenue/Gate on either side, the player's shadow appears on top of them.

Route 3 tall grass rows oversight

The rows count

On Route 3, the two westernmost columns of tall grass in the patch closest to Nacrene City are subject to a graphical glitch: Seven tall grass sprites in each column are squashed to fit into six spaces on the world's grid. The player still moves along this grid, thus misaligning them with the grass sprites in these rows.

Surf music glitch

This glitch occurs when the player hops on land after surfing and immediately collects an item, The surf music will continue to play despite not surfing anymore. This glitch is possible to do on both Route 6 and Seaside Cave. The music will continue to play even after running into wild Pokémon (Only possible in Seaside Cave).

Variable scoring oversight

This glitch only works in cities and towns that can be flown or teleported to with variable scoring dependent on the player's location in the area; specifically, Nacrene City (accordion player), Icirrus City (clapping group walking in a circle), and Opelucid City (keytar/erhu player). If the player is in the area that the variable scoring is active, and flies or teleports to that same city or town, the variable scoring will be active until the music is changed, regardless of the player's location within the city or town. Likewise, if the player is in an area where the variable score is not active and flies or teleports to that city or town, the variable score will not activate until the music is changed.

Café Warehouse oversight

The tiles in the center and right of the door, as well as the tile to the right of the door, on the inside of the Café Warehouse say “It looks like a cabinet full of Pokémon goods.” when the A Button is pressed while facing them. According to the video, there exist numerous points within the void area which also give this result upon interaction.

Dreamyard invisible wall oversight

The row of tiles immediately west of the staircase to the Dreamyard's basement cannot be walked on, despite these type of tiles being able to be walked on in other locations.

Dust cloud graphical glitch

BoEANSprite.png This glitch is in need of research.
Reason: B2W2?
You can discuss this on the talk page.

If the player simultaneously interacts with a Chargestone Cave crystal and a dust cloud, the dust cloud will be layered below the player instead of above them.

Landing on person or item

When Surfing, by moving towards a tile directly adjacent to an NPC or item that is adjacent to water, then quickly pressing the D-pad to dismount onto the NPC or item, the player will be standing on top of it. However, this won't occur if the person is moving.

Nacrene Gym bookcase oversight

After the bookcase in Nacrene Gym has been moved to reveal the secret stairs, it is still possible to read the book on the bookshelf from the stepladder. If the player stands on the stepladder, saves, then resets, upon resuming, it is possible to read the book as if the bookcase had not moved. It is possible to do this until the player leaves the room.

Nimbasa shift glitch

When going through the gate between the city section of Nimbasa City and the amusement park section from either side, there is at least one tile that the player will never emerge from on either side. On the city side, the player will never emerge from the bottommost or topmost tiles, while on the park side, the player will never emerge from the second tile from the bottom. This is despite the fact that the city-side gate is five tiles tall and the amusement park-side gate is four tiles tall, meaning only the city side should need to have a tile that the player does not emerge from, and there should only need to be a single tile.

Opelucid Gym air walk oversight

The player floating one tile to the north of the slope

On the sloping part of the path before the first dragon's tail in Opelucid Gym, the two tiles directly up and down can be walked on, leaving the player walking on the air.

Opelucid Gym pedestal oversight

In front of both of the "certified Trainers" pedestals in the Opelucid Gym is an empty tile that cannot be walked on. This tile is considered by the game to be the pedestal, and can be interacted with rather than the pedestal itself, and acts just like it. Despite this, the space taken by the visible pedestal cannot be walked on.

Opelucid Gym shadowed tiles oversight

In Opelucid Gym, none of the tiles behind the warp tile behind the Gym Leader can be walked on.

Opelucid Gym Surf oversight

The player Surfing in the spot south of the dragon's tail

In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White only, it is possible to use Surf to land on the space one step south of a dragon tail in Opelucid Gym, pictured. This can only be done by the party menu and not by pressing A while facing the space. This traps the player as they won't be able to move/land anywhere.

If the player saves the game while Surfing on this space they will be trapped and the only known way to escape the gym without cheating is to start a new game.

Relic Castle oversight

On B3F of the Relic Castle, near the drop point from the hole closest to the correct drop point to B2F, there is a non-solid wall tile. It is on the wall one tile to the left of the wall directly to the south of this drop point.

Village Bridge Sandwich Shop oversight

Sometimes, at the Village Bridge Sandwich Shop, when Chef Chris requests the player hand out sandwiches to the customers, the speech bubble will be coming from the Pikachu's Trainer.

Walking Trainer glitch

When blocking the path of certain Trainers who walk in a loop, if their path is blocked at a corner so that they cannot change direction, they will continue walking in the direction they were slowly and without turning, so as to appear to be walking into nothing, but behaving as if they are walking into a wall.

Weather removal

It is possible to temporarily remove overworld weather by saving the game, setting the DS's clock to one month later (to change the season), loading the save file, and catching a Pokémon without leaving the area. This works even if the area always has the same weather regardless of the season.

Nimbasa Gym Trainer glitch

In Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White, if the player loses to Lady Colette in Nimbasa Gym while directly facing her when encountered, this glitch will occur. When the player comes back in, she will be standing on the same spot, and will battle the player. After she is defeated, she still remains on the tracks of the roller coaster, and can be passed through while riding the roller coaster to Elesa.

Ace Trainer Summer glitch

When the player enters the sight range of Ace Trainer Summer in Undella Bay from the north while surfing, she will walk over water and challenge the player to a battle.

Alder Town Map oversight

If the player talks to Alder at any time between the battle with Hugh in Floccesy Ranch (and giving him the Town Map) and finding the ranch owner's Herdier, Alder will reject the player and ask the player to give their Town Map to Hugh, which the player already did.

Floccesy Ranch grass oversight

In Floccesy Ranch, there is a tile that appears to be a tall grass tile, but is instead a normal tile. Wild Pokémon cannot be encountered in it (even with Sweet Scent or Honey). Unlike actual tall grass tiles, the bottom of the player's sprite is not covered by the grass when standing on it, and it does not make a noise when the player steps on it.

Floccesy Town snow oversight

In Floccesy Town, in winter, behind the house immediately east of the Pokémon Center is a tile that behaves as a snow tile, but appears as a normal tile. Stepping on the tile produces the sound normally produced when stepping in snow, and footsteps can be seen to be left behind upon stepping on it. The tile is located 1 tile northeast of the northwest corner of the house.

Giant Chasm tree oversight

In the Giant Chasm, there is a row of trees that can be walked through.

N duplication oversight

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: cause

In the ruins of N's Castle, the player can get a copy of N to appear. One N will follow the player around, while the other will stand still and can be talked to as normal. Since the player is being followed by a copy of N, this glitch prevents the player from flying or fighting in battles.

Phantom Bianca glitch

When going through Reversal Mountain for the first time, if the player enters the dungeon from the left side, causing Bianca to follow them, then goes through the southernmost exit and comes back inside, returning to the start of the cave, but not leaving the mountain entirely, Bianca will ask to split up. The player will then move to the next screen, where if they then use either an Escape Rope or Dig they will exit back to the southernmost point. Returning to the main part of the cave will cause Bianca's dialogue box to appear, but for her to be out of sight. After walking around for a while, she will eventually catch up, but may travel through walls in the process.

Pokémon World Tournament NPC duplication oversight

A minor bug occurs in the Pokémon World Tournament building. In a section of the building, there is a spot for the last important NPC the player has battled in for the Semifinals, Quarterfinals, and the Opening Round. If a player battles an important NPC, then in the next tournament battles the same NPC but in a different position and an unimportant NPC in the same position as the important NPC was in the first round, the important NPC will be shown in two different spots.

The beginning of the glitch is at 0:14 and ends at 1:59, with the results of the glitch being shown from 1:51 to 1:59.

Pokéstar Studios surfable tree

In the Pokéstar Studios plaza, the right-hand side of the tree in the northeast corner can be surfed on. No wild Pokémon can be found here. The Super Rod cannot be used on this tile, giving the same message as whenever the player would otherwise try and fish in a non-water tile.

The beginning of the glitch is at 2:00 and ends at 2:42, with the results of the glitch being shown from 2:26 to 2:42.

Rondez-View Ferris Wheel glitch

050Diglett.png This section is incomplete.
Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: video, specifics

In certain cases, if the player saves the game in the Nimbasa Amusement Park, then resumes play on a later date, the NPC in front of the Rondez-View Ferris Wheel can change to a different NPC, but keep the sprite of the old NPC.

For example, N can be observed speaking about Hugh's younger sister as if she was his, and then turns into Hugh when riding the Ferris Wheel, then turns back into N when he gets off.

Route 19 non-solid wall

On Route 19, in the area to the northeast that requires Surf to access, there are two non-solid wall tiles next to the staircase. Only one of these wall tiles can be accessed from the staircase; this tile is located in the wall adjacent to the first tile from the bottom of the staircase. The other tile can be accessed by taking one step east from that tile. In winter, both tiles use the sound effect used when the player walks on snowy tiles.

Route 20 hole glitch

On Route 20, in the area to the south during autumn that requires Surf to access, there is an area with several Pokémon Rangers. To the north of Pokémon Ranger Bret is a tile that causes the player to fall through the leaves, similar to Hole Traps from the Underground in Generation IV. For this specific tile, the player will have a shadow appear on their face which is unlike the other similar tiles on the route.

Village Bridge Restaurant sign oversight

Despite no longer being visible, the sign for the Village Bridge Restaurant from Black and White can be read by interacting with the tile in the tennis court where the sign once stood.

Virbank City surfable boat oversight

In Virbank City, it is possible to surf on the southeasternmost tile of the boat in the western part of the water by interacting with it from the adjacent land tile. This tile cannot be accessed from the adjacent water tile, and it cannot produce a wild Pokémon encounter, even through Sweet Scent or Honey.

White Forest shadow oversight

The tree lacking a shadow as seen in the upper left corner

One of the trees in White Forest to the left of the entrance to the White Treehollow does not have a shadow underneath it.

Japanese language

Frozen Zoroark glitch

Main article: Frozen Zoroark glitch

In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, if the player begins following N's Zoroark through Victory Road then leaves the area, Zoroark will appear in its initial position, and will not move. This prevents the player from meeting N. This bug was fixed in most international releases, with the exception of some early copies of English White 2.

Marlon blank dialogue boxes

In the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, if the player beats the Shadow Triad at the Plasma Frigate in the Giant Chasm, then, before defeating Ghetsis, goes to the Humilau City Gym and talks to Marlon, his second and third text boxes will be blank. This bug was fixed in international releases.
