Krabby (Japanese: クラブ Crab) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves into Kingler starting at level 28.

Biology

Physiology

Krabby resembles the creature they are based on, the crab. Krabby's top half is a hard shell that is orange in color. Krabby has a pair of large pincers that it uses as powerful weapons. Krabby's pincers are also used for balance when it walks sideways.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

If a Krabby loses a pincer in battle, it will completely grow back in a short period of time.

Behavior

On beaches where food is hard to come by, Krabby can be seen squabbling with each other over territory. When Krabby sense imminent danger, they will cloak themselves with bubbles from its mouth in an attempt at looking bigger and more intimidating.

Habitat

Krabby live on beaches, burrowed inside holes dug into the sand. They are normally found in Kanto and Johto, but migrate to Sinnoh from time to time.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Krabby are known as scavengers and feed on whatever debris they happen upon in their environment. If food is too scarce, Krabby will also eats mouthfuls of sand to obtain nutrients.

Trivia

  • In Pokémon Platinum, Krabby is the one of the few Pokémon not in the Sinnoh Pokédex, and not introduced in Generation IV, to have a new sprite. Meowth, Muk, Oddish, Hitmonlee, Ninetales, Primeape, and Registeel are the others.
  • In versions Red, Blue and Green, its sprite is symetrical, like that of Shellder.

Origin

It is based upon a crab.

Name origin

Krabby's name is a misspelling of crabby, which means grouchy or ill-tempered. Its Japanese name is simply crab.
