Upon arriving at Viridian City you will see a Pokémon Center, if your Pokémon ever need healing this is the best place to go. Your options are limited upon first arrival as an old man blocks the way north to Route 2, and the only other Route is a waste of time until you have all eight badges from the Indigo League's Gym Leaders or Pokéballs to capture Pokémon.
B2F (South)
Battle the Team Rocket Grunt, then grab the HP Up from the raised platform and take the ladder back to 1F.

If you follow the trees to the left of the old man counter-clockwise, the tree you come to has a Potion hidden on it.
1F
Go south to battle the next two Trainers. Be sure to collect the Potion, Rare Candy, and Escape Rope. Head north then west and climb down the second ladder.

Directly to the left of the Pokémon Center is a sleeping man who will give you TM 42 containing Dream Eater, unfortunately Cut or Surf is needed to get to him. Also directly above the Pokémon Center is a school where you can learn more about the game your playing, such as Status Changes
B2F (Northeast)
Fight the second Team Rocket Grunt and pick up 01 from the platform. Inspect the large rock to find a hidden Ether before returning to 1F.

To the right of the Pokémon Center is the Pokémart which is where you need to go to advance the story. Upon first arrival you don't get a chance to buy anything because the owner asks you to run an errand for him he gives you Oaks Parcel and asks that you deliver it for him. So back to Pallet Town we go.
1F
Continue westward along the tunnel. Grab the Moon Stone in the northwest corner, then take the third ladder to the lower floor.

Pallet Town Revisited
B2F (Outer Area)
Follow the winding tunnel in a clockwise direction to the northwest, where a Super Nerd claims both the Dome Fossil and Helix Fossil lying here as his own. Defeat him, and he lets you choose one of them for yourself. The Dome Fossil was once a Kabuto, while the Helix Fossil was once an Omanyte. Go west to the final stairway and you are ambushed by a pair of Team Rocket Grunts. They intend to steal the fossil you just acquired, and draw you into battle.

There is only two reasons we are here on this occasion but if needed your Mom can heal your Pokémon. First you need to give Prof.Oak his delivery and in return he will give you and Gary a Pokédex.

Your first Gym Battle is against Brock who uses Ground/Rock Pokémon. Pikachu is lacking against these types this early in the game so it is worth planning your party in accordance.
*On Route 22 Mankey is catchable and at Level 9 he learns his first Fighting Type Move Low Kick.
*Also on this Route are Nidoran♂ and Nidoran♀ who both learn Double Kick at Level 12.
Other Pokémon can chip away at Brock's Pokémon but for an easy time, try using one of the above.

This Route is as easy as heading North to go through Viridian Forest, the path on the right bypasses the forest and has some good items (HP Up, Moon Stone and a Flash HM from one of Professor Oak's Aides) but you can only get there once you have Cut. Navigation through Viridian Forest is pretty straightforward, only the amount of Grass can hinder you. Ideally your party Pokémon should be all on Level 10 to make this easier for you.

Start of by standing one square up and left of the first person you see and then click on the tree.

Next follow the path north and then left until you see the Pokéball in the grass, pick it up and move on. Make your way back to the entrance and then head right from there and north to find you first Bug Catcher. Going north from there the path splits, the left path has grass has grass whereas the other doesn't. They both go the same way so make your choice, at the top is your second Bug Catcher and another split in the path. Take the left one to find a potion and when you come to a left right choice - go left and down. At the bottom the path u turns and heads up again but not before you hit another Bug Catcher. After heading up again and then down again take the first right you come to and pick up another Potion. Finally head left and up, battling your last Bug Catcher on the way, and leave Viridian and back onto Route 2.

When you emerge from Viridian Forest you will be back on Route 2 but there is nothing much to do here. The part of the Route that bypasses Viridian Forest has its north entrance here but you still need Cut. If you still need some Pokémon from Route 2 then use the grass here, otherwise head north and into Pewter City.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Yellow.
These pages follow the original Game Boy iteration, not Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 3

Route 3

Route 3 is a grassy road that leads east from Pewter City into the mountains around Route 4. Many Trainers can be found along the way as they raise their Pokémon for the upcoming cave.

Route 4 (West)

The Magikarp Salesman

A Pokémon Center stands near the entrance to Mt. Moon. Inside, a shady man offers to sell you a Magikarp for $500. The fish is nearly useless until it evolves into the powerful Gyarados at level 20. With enough money to spare, you can end up with a strong Water-type Pokémon sooner than normal, but you can soon hook a Magikarp for free with the right fishing rod.

Mt. Moon

Mt. Moon, 1F
Mt. Moon, B1F
Mt. Moon, B2F

Mt. Moon is a mystical mountain that is known for its frequent meteor falls. The shards of stars that fall here are known as Moon Stones. There are many Trainers exploring the tunnels inside. Many cave-dwelling Pokémon, like Zubat and Paras, make their home here.

1F

Collect TM12 (Water Gun) and the Potion to the west, then follow the tunnel eastward and climb down the first ladder.

B2F (South)

Battle the Team Rocket Grunt, then grab the HP Up from the raised platform and take the ladder back to 1F.

1F

Go south to battle the next two Trainers. Be sure to collect the Potion, Rare Candy, and Escape Rope. Head north then west and climb down the second ladder.

B2F (Northeast)

Fight the second Team Rocket Grunt and pick up TM01 (Mega Punch) from the platform. Inspect the large rock to find a hidden Ether before returning to 1F.

1F

Continue westward along the tunnel. Grab the Moon Stone in the northwest corner, then take the third ladder to the lower floor.

Afterward, the pair disappears, leaving you free to climb the final ladder to the exit.
