Trainer Files

Trainer Files (Japanese: トレーナーズファイル Trainer's File) is a type of limited-time event in Pokémon Masters EX. These events are similar to solo events, in that the only story areas they contain are an introductory story area and an additional story area that is unlocked after completing battles to collect a certain number of event items. However, Trainer Files events typically focus on certain groups of Trainers, such as the Kanto Elite Four or the Akala Island Trial Captains, and the stories are driven by the values and relationships of the focal characters.

In addition, the sync pairs featured in Trainer Files events are exclusively available in variety scouts.

Kanto Elite Four (Part 1)

This event ran from April 20 to May 14, 2023. This event was focused on Lorelei and Bruno. The "Lorelei Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Lorelei & Cloyster for the duration of the event, and the "Bruno Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Bruno & Onix starting on April 22, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers H from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Lorelei & Cloyster or Bruno & Onix to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted sync pairs with the Kanto or Elite Four theme skills to earn +0.2× bonus vouchers.

The event reran from April 18 to May 4, 2024. The "Super Spotlight Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Lorelei & Cloyster, Bruno & Onix, Agatha & Arbok, and Lance & Dragonair for the duration of the event.

In this run, Event Voucher H was replaced with Event Voucher A. In addition to the bonuses from the previous run, the player could battle using Agatha & Arbok or Lance & Dragonair to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers. Everything else was the same as the previous run.

Plot

The player comes across Bruno and Lorelei in a field, who are training their Onix and Cloyster's defenses by having them withstand attacks from Bruno's Machamp. Misty and Brock get into an argument over whether Onix or Cloyster is harder, and Bruno laughs that this training all started because they got into the same argument. He then says that the best way to find out whose Pokémon is stronger is to battle, so he and Lorelei challenge the player, Misty, and Brock to battle.

After the battle is over, Lorelei compliments the player, Misty, and Brock on their effort. Misty and Brock are exhausted, but the player is ready for more. Bruno invites the player to join him and Agatha for training, and Lorelei suggests that she and Lance meet up with them as well. Misty and Brock would love to go, but they're too tired, so they ask the player to train hard for the both of them. The player then heads off with Lorelei and Bruno.

This event ran from May 7 to 21, 2023. This event was focused on the Kanto Elite Four, with particular focus on Agatha and Lance. The "Agatha Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting recruiting Agatha & Arbok for the duration of the event, and the "Lance Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Lance & Dragonair starting on May 9, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers K from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. Plot

In a dark forest, Agatha and her Arbok defeat Ariana's Arbok. Agatha notes her loyalty to Giovanni and hopes that Ariana respects Giovanni as someone she wants to become stronger than rather than just as someone who pampers her. If Ariana always thinks of Giovanni as better than everyone else, she'll never be able to defeat Agatha or those kids from Johto. Ariana declares that she'll show Agatha how terrifying Team Rocket is someday, but Agatha isn't getting her hopes up. Before leaving, Agatha tells Ariana that she'll have to get moving if she seriously wants to become stronger, as other people-like Red, Blue, and Leaf-are going to keep getting stronger, too.

Agatha arrives in the village where Lance, Lorelei, Bruno, and the player have already gathered, and she apologizes for being late. Lance's Dragonair has been playing with a couple of kids, and Lance encourages them to become dragon masters. He then asks Agatha to battle with him against Bruno and Lorelei, so they can train and he can show the kids the power of dragon Pokémon. Lorelei is a little annoyed that Lance is using them for personal gain, but Bruno doesn't mind. Agatha agrees to help, as she wants to make it clear who of them is the strongest.

After the training is over, the player is chatting with the Kanto Elite Four. The player suddenly receives a phone call, informing them of something which shocks them. They report what they learned from the phone call to the others, and Lance says they should go.

Meanwhile, the Team Rocket executives are in the city, gloating about the success of their plan. Their grunts are causing chaos outside the city, so no one can get in their way. However, Ariana is still brooding over her encounter with Agatha. Archer says they need to wrap things up, but Lorelei, Agatha, Lance, and Bruno appear to stop them. Proton wonders why the grunts didn't stop them, and Lance says that the player is dealing with them. The Elite Four send out the Pokémon that they've been training with and prepare to put an end to Team Rocket's plan.

Akala Passion

This event ran from June 21 to August 4, 2023. This event was focused on the Akala Island Trial Captains, with particular focus on Kiawe and Mallow. The "Kiawe Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Kiawe & Arcanine for the duration of the event, and the "Mallow Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Mallow & Shiinotic starting on June 23, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers Z from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Kiawe & Arcanine or Mallow & Shiinotic to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Lana & Araquanid to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted Alola sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

Plot

Kiawe, Lana, and Mallow are trying Cilan, Chili, and Cress's specialty tea. It's delicious, and the triplets attribute this to their teamwork with Grass, Fire, and Water. This gives Mallow the idea to try making a dish with Kiawe and Lana, since they're also specialists of those three types. She doesn't want to make the same Mallow Special that they use for the trials, though, so they'll have to come up with a new recipe. Cilan asks to try their dish when it's done.

After a while, the two trios meet back up to try the dish. However, Kiawe, Mallow, and Lana insist that even though it's finished, they can't eat it yet; they have to wait a little longer, with Kiawe's Arcanine keeping it warm while they wait. When night falls, the dish suddenly starts glowing, and Mallow explains that's due to the effect of her Shiinotic's spores. Cilan has heard that Shiinotic's spores glow in the dark to send its prey to sleep, and Cress worries it's not safe to eat. Mallow assures him it's fine, and the triplets try the dish. The taste is a bit peculiar, and it starts to make them sleepy, but suddenly it becomes unbearably spicy, so Lana's Araquanid cools them down. Mallow asks them what they thought of the dish, which has been dubbed the "Akala Trio Special", and they say that it was a unique dining experience that couldn't have been accomplished by anyone else.

Two Factory Heads

This event ran from October 5 to 19, 2023. It was focused on the Factory Heads Thorton and Noland. The "Thorton Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Thorton & Magnezone for the duration of the event, and the "Noland Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Noland & Ninjask starting on October 7, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers N from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Thorton & Magnezone or Noland & Ninjask to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Sawyer & Honchkrow to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted sync pairs with the Battle Facility Foe theme skill to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

Plot

Sawyer calls Thorton and Noland to the Battle Villa to help him with a problem they've been having with two of the rental Pokémon that they lend to Trainers on Pasio. These Pokémon have rough dispositions and refuse to get along with anyone, which is a problem since rental Pokémon are often given to inexperienced Trainers. Since the Battle Factory also uses rental Pokémon, Sawyer hopes that the Factory Heads will be able to win over these two ornery Pokémon. Thorton and Noland are eager to take on the challenge. Thorton wants to work with the Magnezone, so Noland agrees to partner with the Ninjask.

A while later, Thorton, Noland, and Sawyer meet up with Steven and Cynthia, who are very impressed by how cooperative and powerful the rental Pokémon have become. Unfortunately, when they try to have Magnezone and Ninjask be used by novice Trainers, they are just as disobedient as before. Noland and Thorton realize that Ninjask and Magnezone won't listen to any Trainers besides them, and Thorton apologizes that they weren't able to live up to Sawyer's expectations. However, Sawyer says he's just glad to see them listen to any Trainers at all, and he asks Thorton and Noland if they'd be willing to take Magnezone and Ninjask as their partner Pokémon. The two Factory Heads are happy to oblige, as the two Pokémon will be much happier with them than as rental Pokémon.

Sawyer	Yeah, I've got a soft spot for Pokémon with a bit of pride in 'em. But it's concerning when rental Pokémon have rough dispositions. Since they're often paired up with pretty inexperienced Trainers. So I wanted to ask you Factory Heads for help. I've heard that the Battle Factory also utilizes rental Pokémon... And I figured that the leaders of such a place may be able to win over these two.

Elegant Flying-Type Pokémon

This event ran from February 5 to 19, 2024. It was focused on Falkner. The "Falkner Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Falkner & Noctowl for the duration of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers I from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Falkner & Noctowl to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Janine & Ariados to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and Janine & Crobat or any unlisted Flying-type sync pairs to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

Plot

Falkner and his Noctowl are training with Janine and her Ariados in the forest. Falkner detects Janine's ambush and knocks out her Ariados, to her dismay. Falkner brags about the special training his father put him through to make sure he was perfectly in sync with Noctowl and declares that his father is better than Janine's father, Koga. However, Janine protests that just because she lost doesn't mean her father did. Suddenly, two Team Rocket Grunts jump out of the bushes, having waited for the two Gym Leaders to tire themselves out from training before swooping in to steal their Pokémon. However, Falkner is still ready to go, and Janine sends out her Crobat to help him.

The Team Rocket Grunts manage to paralyze Falkner and Janine's Pokémon, and they're confident they'll be able to win. However, Janine uses her ninja techniques to knock out the Grunt's Electabuzz. When the other Grunt's Mismagius disappears, Janine heals Falkner's Noctowl so that Falkner can detect the invisible Mismagius and use Noctowl to knock it out. The grunts retreat, and Falkner thanks Janine for her help and acknowledges that Koga's techniques are amazing. Janine is taken aback by his sudden change of heart, but she's glad he appreciates her father now. She leaves, and Falkner looks up to the sky and silently asks his father to watch over him from above.

Lovable Numskulls

This event ran from May 9 to 23, 2024. It was focused on Team Skull and its leaders, Guzma and Plumeria. The "Guzma Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Guzma & Ariados for the duration of the event, and the "Plumeria Variety Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Plumeria & Gengar starting on May 11, 2024 and lasting until the end of the event.

During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers F from battles that could be redeemed in the shop. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day. Extra vouchers were automatically exchanged with coins once the event was finished.

The player could battle using Guzma & Ariados or Plumeria & Gengar to obtain +0.6× bonus vouchers; Guzma & Golisopod or Plumeria & Salazzle to obtain +0.4× bonus vouchers; and any unlisted sync pairs with the Poison, Bug, or Alola theme skills to obtain +0.2× bonus vouchers.

Plot

On a beach, Plumeria and Guzma are talking with a Team Skull Grunt who wants to leave Team Skull so he can join Team Yell and support Marnie. When Plumeria asks if he's being serious, he doubles down on his request, and the two grunts accompanying him support his decision. Guzma wants to test the grunt's commitment to his decision, so he tells the grunt that he'll have to defeat him and Plumeria if he really wants to leave Team Skull. Guzma and Plumeria send out their Ariados and Gengar, respectively. The grunt is a little scared, but he accepts the challenge, and the other grunts send out their Pokémon to battle alongside him. Guzma then warns them that he won't go easy on them.

Guzma and Plumeria's Pokémon take some hits from the grunts' Pokémon, but ultimately claim an easy victory. Although the grunt is disheartened, Guzma surprisingly tells him to go, with Plumeria reassuring the grunt that Guzma can already see that he's serious. The grunt thanks Guzma and Plumeria before leaving to fulfill his dream, leaving his friends to shed tears of happiness for him. Immediately afterwards, a Team Yell Grunt approaches them and says she wishes to quit Team Yell in favor of joining Team Skull out of admiration for Plumeria. Guzma lets her in and tells his two grunts to teach her the rules of Team Skull. While the Team Yell Grunt begins her lessons, Plumeria observes as one story ends and another one begins.
