Scarlet's Tarountula (Japanese: スカーレットのタマンチュラ Scarlet's Tamantula) is a Pokémon that Scarlet owns in Pokémon Adventures. As of PASV25, he is at level 14 and his Characteristic is that he is "alert to sounds."
History
As seen in Abduction! The Target is Miraidon!!, Tarountula has been with Scarlet since before she was taken in by Team Star. A year later, Scarlet encountered a group of Team Star Grunts attempting to coerce a girl named Penny into joining their group. When Scarlet defended Penny, the Grunts attempted to attack her in retaliation, only to be tied up into a ball of Tarountula's thread. Scarlet then sent the Grunts away by kicking the ball down Uva Academy's stairs.
Tarountula debuted in Challenge! DJ Giacomo!!, where Scarlet used his thread to help teach a boy how to make a cat's cradle. Later, by firing his ball of thread at a wild Roaming Form Gimmighoul, Tarountula managed to successfully take its coin.
In Skillful! The Mysterious Treasure Hunter!!, Tarountula helped Scarlet with the Cortondo Gym Test, the Olive Roll. By lining Tarountula's sticky thread around the ground, Scarlet kept the giant olive ball from bouncing away, making it easy to push into the goal. Afterward, Tarountula was used in Scarlet's Gym battle with Katy, but when he faced Katy's Tarountula, they proved to be evenly matched. With both Pokémon unable to defeat the other, Katy was forced to declare the match a draw.
In Challenge! The Avant-Garde Gym Leader!!, Scarlet used Tarountula in her second Gym battle against Brassius. Thanks to his Insomnia Ability, Tarountula avoided being put to sleep when Brassius's Petilil used Sleep Powder, then defeated his opponent with Bug Bite. Next, he faced Brassius's Smoliv, who used a Sunny Day-Weather Ball combination to deal super-effective damage. Tarountula survived the attack, then retaliated with another Bug Bite to take out Smoliv. Afterward, he was switched out for Palafin when Brassius sent out his Sudowoodo.
In Abduction! The Target is Miraidon!!, Tarountula used his thread to tie Violet up, allowing Scarlet to take Violet's Miraidon. After Scarlet met Arven, she used Tarountula's thread to hold a sandwich in front of Miraidon. This allowed Scarlet to guide the normally uncontrollable Miraidon to whichever direction she wanted it to go.
In PASV17 Tarountula helped battle Orthworm, the Lurking Steel Titan. By eating dirt in the area, Orthworm kept fleeing from Scarlet and Arven by digging underground. Tarountula created a large web and surrounded Orthworm's mouth with it, preventing the Titan from escaping. When the group found themselves trapped in a hole, Tarountula made a hot air balloon out of threads. Armarouge provided a fire to get it into the air and lifted them out of the pit. They then teamed up with Violet and Nemona to take the Titan down and obtained the Salty Herba Mystica.
In PASV21, Scarlet accidently sent out Tarountula in her battle against Atticus because of the psychedelic poison she was suffering from. Still disorientated, Tarountula took a direct hit from Atticus's Skuntank. Although he continued to get worn down, he managed to remove Skuntank with Circle Throw before being switched out.
In PASV29, Tarountula stole a Team Star Grunt's Rotom Phone containing details from certain Team Star member's about launching a coup to take over Team Star. Before he could get to Scarlet with the information, he was found by Carmen, who took the phone and tried to warn Eri. Around the same time that Eri and Carmen met with Scarlet and discussed their plan to stop the coup, Tarountula showed up with Scarlet's other Pokémon.
Personality and characteristics
Tarountula is valued by Scarlet for his versatile thread, which he can use for multiple purposes such as storing collected coins, ensnaring targets, or helping her move quickly by swinging on trees. He can make a new ball of thread in under a day.
He is usually out of his Poké Ball, attached to Scarlet's back similarly to a backpack. He is dependable in battle and proved capable of fighting evenly against Katy's Tarountula. Although he is friendlier than his Trainer, he will follow her instructions regardless of the morals behind them. He has a serious side, which was seen when Scarlet talked about past clients who wronged her.
