Spinel's Umbreon (Japanese: スピネル ブラッキー Supineru's Bracky) is Spinel's second known Pokémon, as well as his main partner.

History

Umbreon and Spinel

Umbreon first appeared in The Future I Choose!, where it appeared alongside its Trainer spying on the Brave Olivine.

In Quaxly, We Can Do It, Spinel sent Umbreon out to battle Liko, Roy, and Dot after they'd managed to defeat his Magneton and Beheeyem. Umbreon had the advantage of surprise, only for the battle to be called off when Lucius's Arboliva appeared on the scene, taking Liko, Roy and Dot to safety. This caused Spinel to exhibit signs of curiosity and mental instability, Umbreon showing concern begged Spinel to back of, which Spinel did.

In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, Umbreon confronted Friede alongside Spinel and battled against Captain Pikachu in a concealed room dedicated to trap them. Despite Captain Pikachu's incredible strength, Umbreon was able to hold its own against him, only for Captain Pikachu to break through the wall with Volt Tackle after using Umbreon's Reflect as a springboard to gain more momentum, allowing Friede and Captain Pikachu to escape from the concealed room.

In The Approaching Shadow!, Spinel used Umbreon in an experiment where it was covered by the mist generated from the Laquium. This resulted in Umbreon turning feral which caused it to defeat Amethio's Ceruledge in a single hit. In Shine on, Terastallization! Liko vs. Roy!, Umbreon appeared next to its Trainer, already recovered from the effects of Laquium.

In The Rising Volt Tacklers vs. The Explorers!, Umbreon partnered with Beheeyem in a Double Battle against Friede's Charizard and Captain Pikachu. They initially held the advantage due to Beheeyem Skill Swapping Pikachu's Lightning Rod Hidden Ability, but were ultimately defeated after Friede successfully lured their opponents into getting in the way of a Dark-type Tera Blast. Beheeyem was defeated on the spot, while Umbreon was soon finished off by a Volt Tackle.

In Where the Adventure Leads, Umbreon appeared alongside Spinel during an interview, one year after the events in Laqua.

Umbreon reappeared in We Are the Rising Volt Tacklers! alongside Spinel, when Spinel discovered the Rising Volt Tacklers' current situation and their return, Spinel began petting Umbreon, praising its fur.

Umbreon, having enough with Spinel's obsession with the Laquium, abandons him and releases herself by breaking her own Poké Ball.

In HZ135, Umbreon desperately tried to prevent Spinel from fusing with the Laquium Core, but was easily defeated. In the next episode, after Spinel unfused with the Laquium Core, he angrily forced her to battle against Liko's Meowscarada under the effects of Laquium against her wishes in a last ditch effort to protect the core, ignoring the pain it caused her. Once the Laquium Core was finally erased, Spinel tried to recall her, but Umbreon, finally accepting that he did not care about her anymore, broke her Poké Ball and bitterly abandoned him. Nonetheless, she still showed some concern as she paid him a brief visit from outside his cell before leaving.

Personality and characteristics

Umbreon is shown to be a strong Pokémon, as seen in Quaxly, We Can Do It when Liko, Roy, and Dot noticed she was stronger than his Magneton and Beheeyem. This was shown again in The Plan to Capture Rayquaza when she managed to hold of its own against Captain Pikachu.

Umbreon is shown to have a strong bond with her Trainer, as seen in Quaxly, We Can Do It when she begged her Trainer to back off when he showed signs of curiosity and mental instability. Spinel even apologized to Umbreon at having to send it out to battle people he considered weaklings. Spinel also shows Umbreon affection, petting her head while spying on the Rising Volt Tacklers. Umbreon's strong bond with her trainer was shown again in HZ135 when after Spinel was absorbed into the Laquium, Umbreon attacked it in order to join her trainer. Although her bond was ultimately broken during the next episode after Spinel used the Laqium on her. However, she showed some concern for her former trainer, as she checked on him whilst he was imprisoned. She also hopes that Spinel will one day see the error of his ways and reunite with him.
