Allister reappeared in [[JN092]], where Ash and Goh learned that he was one of Stow-on-Side's Gym Leaders, although his Gym was much smaller than the [[Stow-on-Side Stadium]]. Ash came to him to ask help in [[Gigantamax]]ing his Gengar, which he agreed to. However, when it turned out Gengar could only perform a standard [[Dynamax]], Allister told Ash and Goh about [[Max Mushrooms]] and the {{DL|Master Dojo|Max Soup}} that can made from them and can make a Pokémon capable of Gigantamaxing. Allister accompanied Ash and Goh to the forest where Max Mushrooms grow, warning them of the {{type|Ghost}} Pokémon lurking in the woods. Once they had collected a sufficient amount of Max Mushrooms, Allister started cooking them and stayed awake overnight to watch over the stew pot. During the night, Allister had a talk with Gengar, understanding its desire to become stronger and its happiness of being with Ash. The next day, Gengar ate the Max Soup and was able to Gigantamax, making Allister happy. When Ash and Goh left Stow-on-Side, Alluster came to see them off, hoping they would get to meet again.

During their travels through the woods Allister helped Ash and Goh avoid being hurt by wild Galarian {{p|Corsola}} and an angry {{p|Trevenant}}. Coming across a wild {{p|Drakloak}} and {{p|Dreepy}} using the mushrooms as a cushion, Allister asked them if they could take the mushrooms. Ash realised Allister had the ability to speak with [[Ghost-type]] Pokémon but assured the nervous boy he didn't think he was weird for this. As the Max Soup needed a night to brew and simmer, Ash and Goh slept at the Gym. Allister told Gengar he understood that Gengar had a very lonely life before meeting Ash but now he had a bright future and wanted to prove himself worthy of the truth Ash had placed in him. Gengar started hugging Allister, and the boy let out a rare smile as his mask slipped off briefly. The following morning, the soup was done and Gengar drank it, allowing both Ash and Gengar to successfully achieve the Gigantamax form. By the end of the day, Allister bids the group farewell as the train departs, hoping to meet Ash and Gengar again someday.
