You are not this Pokémon, you can't use Future Sight. Don't add stuff about the future! This article is about a current event. The article's contents may change as the event progresses and more information becomes available. Please be cautious when adding information to this article, as rumors and speculation often get confused with fact; avoid any information on this subject which is not confirmed by reliable sources.

Season structure

Generally Pokémon competitive play is organised along regional lines where different subsidiaries handle Competitive Play.

  • In all places except for Mainland China, the Competitive Season in Pokémon runs from September 1, 20 to August 31.
  • In Mainaland China the Competitive Season for 2026 Pokémon World Championships qualification runs from April 14, 2025 until April 13, 2026.

Video Game Competition

Pokémon Competitive play generally follows an annualized competitive structure where point gaining events start in September and culminate in the Pokémon World Championships in the following August. Video Game play is governed by Regulation sets. The 2025-2026 Season followed the following regulation sets in competitive play:

Transition Period to Pokémon Champions

During the transition period from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and Pokémon Champions between 8 April 2026 and 31 May 2026, Tournaments were held in accordance to the regulation set schedule below:

Regulation Set I Regulation Set M-A
  • 2025–26 Philippines Master Ball League (25-26 April)
  • Prague Regional Championships 2026 (25-26 April)
  • 2025–26 Hong Kong Master Ball League (2-3 May)
  • Los Angeles Regional Championships 2026 (8-10 May)
  • Utrecht Regional Championships 2026 (16-17 May)
  • Campinas Regional Championships 2026 (16-17 May)
  • Melbourne Regional Championships 2026 (23-24 May)
  • Lima Special Championships 2026 (23-24 May)

Pokémon Trading Card Game

The Standard format used in the TCG rotates in the late winter or spring depending on region. In TPCi/Play! Pokémon regions, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, new cards are generally made legal 2 weeks after their respective initial release date. Elsewhere, new cards become legal for play immediately upon release.

In Mainland China, the legal regulation marks before and after rotation differ from other regions.

  • Before the rotation, the Chinese 2025 Standard format was used in which cards with a E, F, G, H, and I regulation mark are legal.
  • After the rotation, the Chinese 2026 Standard format was used in which cards with a F, G, H, I, and J regulation mark are legal.

The exact timing of the rotation differed by region as follows:

  • China China: January 16, 2026
  • Japan Japan: January 23, 2026
  • Taiwan and Hong Kong Taiwan and Hong Kong: February 6, 2026
  • South Korea South Korea: March 13, 2026
  • Thailand Thailand: March 20, 2026
  • Indonesia Indonesia: April 3, 2026
  • TPCi TPCi/Play! Pokémon, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines: April 10, 2026

The only regional-level event to use the Expanded format was the Champions League 2026 Aichi May, which held an Expanded tournament in additon to Standard events. New cards are made legal for play in Expanded at the same time as Standard. Two cards, Rebel Clash Flapple and Evolving Skies Medicham V, were added to the Expanded ban list during this season.

Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, the Great League format was used; this means that Pokémon with a CP of 1,500 or less are legal.

Pokémon UNITE

Pokémon UNITE does not have defined formats; however competitive tournaments are always played on the latest balance patch that exists at the time of the tournament.

In-person National and International competitions

These are National and International top-level tournaments, typically offering multiple direct qualification spots to the Pokémon World Championships, including spots with travel awards. The one exception to this is the Pokemon UNITE tournament at LAIC where the top 3 teams were instead provided with travel awards to PUACL. This represented the only path for non-asian teams to compete at that tournament.

Note that there are no national championships in China, instead Chinese seeds, and travel awards are selected entirely through seasonal championship points. Additionally, the Pokémon Sports Day event hosts the 2026 Pokémon Trainers Cup (PTC), the Korean League 2026 Final Season, and the 2026 Pokémon GO Asia Championships Series: South Korea under the same roof.
