History
I first discovered Pokémon in mid 1998 when I found a poster of the original 150 in a magazine. I was fascinated with the creatures, and on first impressions alone, liked Hypno. It was a couple of months later when I watched my first episode, Challenge of the Samurai. With that episode alone, I fell in love with Pokémon and a little while later got my first game, Blue. After studying the manual, I chose Bulbasaur as my starter, while my first captured Pokémon was a Rattata. I kept that Rattata, whom I later nicknamed Bronze, throughout my entire journey, and I've always been attatched to Rattata and Raticate because of that.
When the Orange Islands saga was first showing on tv, I started to delve into fanfiction, and evantually signed up on fanfiction.net (this was mid 2001 I believe). If I remember correctly, back then the Pokémon section was about 50 pages, and even back then I thought that was a lot. The less you say about my first poor attempts at Pokémon fanfiction the better.
When second generation came, I got Silver. This time I chose Cyndaquil as my starter, and just like in Blue caught a Rattata as my first Pokémon. I was also very fond of my Lugia and Umbreon. Like many before me, I discovered a few years back that my Silver game's internal battery had died.
In the long wait between second and third generation games, and due to me not discovering fandom yet, I fell out of Pokémon for a little while, however I still watched the anime. Evantually Ruby and Sapphire came out, and I fell in love with Pokémon all over again. As the games were a while away from Europe, I first played Ruby on an emulator. My starter was a Torchic, but I later chose Treecko when I got the actual game. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are some of my favourites games in the Pokémon series, and I hate how they are seen as the sort of 'black sheep' of the main games. I love most of the Hoenn Pokémon, but my absolute favourites are Sceptile and Milotic.
It was around this time that I started discovering the main Pokémon fandom. Despite this I never signed up on any forums, or never even really spoke with anyone from the fandom, choosing to lurk around the forums instead. Evantually I stopped watching the Advance Generation anime as it just wasn't interesting to me anymore. I still have yet to watch most of the episodes, but for now I don't mind.
Finally in 2006, with Diamond and Pearl were nearing release, I kept up with all the new info on Serebii, and bought the Japanese version of Pearl when it was released (although I wouldn't get until December that year thanks to the site I ordered from losing my first copy). I choose Piplup as my starter and went blindly through her game, unable to understand a damn thing, and evantually getting so lost that I begrudginly went and found a walkthrough for the rest of the game. Later getting the European released of both Diamond and Pearl, I only uses my Japanese game now for exploitation of the surf glitch. As with Hoenn, I love most of the Sinnoh Pokémon, but my absolute favourites are Lucario, Shaymin and Drapion. I also fell back in love with the anime recently, thanks to Dawn and the awesome Diamond and Pearl series.
I firmly believe that Dawn should catch Heatran. No seriously.
My favourite Pokémon manga is Pokémon DP.
Bulbapedia
I mostly work on manga related articles here on Bulbapedia, although I will touch on and upload images for other articles if needed.
Fanfiction
I have been writing fanfiction for years, long before the internet and Pokémon, back before I even knew it was called fanfiction. My first attempt at a Pokémon fanfic was back when the Orange Islands saga was first showing on UK tv, long before I got the internet at home. My story was about two pages long and had a plot where Jessie and James actually caught Pikachu for once, which forced Ash and gang to go to a Team Rocket base stationed in Orange Islands to get Pikachu back. It also had the overused "Giovanni is Ash's father" plot, which I would continue to use in most of my multichapter anime universe fanfiction.
I discovered fanfiction.net in mid 2001 and signed up immediately. I've written a lot of multichapter stories, but never really finished any of them due to either procrastination, writer's block, or a busy schedule. I tend to write a lot of drama/angst, as well as some action/adventure. My fanfiction can be found on fanfiction.net under the pen-name Arceus.
