Team Magma (Japanese: マグマ Magma-dan, literally Magma Gang) is one of the villainous teams to be found in Hoenn. Team Magma's goal is to raise and expand the landmasses of the world with the power of Groudon. The leader of Team Magma is Maxie. Their uniforms are a black shirt, black short pants for the men and black skirt for the women, with a short red jacket.

In the games

Team Magma appears in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, but they have the central history only in Ruby. Their headquarters are in the Magma Hideout.

Team Magma is made up of three different ranks:

Their Pokémon include Numel for Grunts, Camerupt, Golbat, Mightyena, and Poochyena; in general, they use a mix of Flying-, Poison-, Ground-, and Fire-types.

In the anime

Team Magma appears several times, searching for clues on the ancient Pokémon Groudon. Their leader, Maxie, never even touches a Poké Ball, much less controls Groudon. While returning to base in a submarine, they accidentally pick up Ash and company, who are discovered by Maxie. Team Magma functions as a complete organization, and respect is always shown.

There are many grunts and an admin, Tabitha. Brodie's status is unknown; he may be an admin or a very experienced grunt. Butler from Jirachi: Wish Maker worked as a scientist for the organization at a time prior to the movie, but after failing to create a Groudon from a fossilized remnant of another, was fired.

Their Pokémon usually include Houndoom and Mightyena. Brodie's team includes a Ditto.

In the manga

Team Magma still consists of three different ranks, just as in its other incarnations. However, instead of admins, they have the FireHeads Trio, composed of three trainers with specialties relating to the use of fire, Mack, Courtney, and Tabitha. Their leader is Maxie (Matsubusa). Unlike the anime, Team Magma is fairly unorganized, functioning in a rather 'barbaric' way. Basically, Maxie gives an order, and the three FireHeads can carry out the orders in any way they wish to. Unlike the anime, they show absolutely no respect towards their leader.

Their Pokémon include Camerupt, Numel, Slugma, Magcargo, Torkoal, and Ninetales.

In the TCG

Cards featuring Team Magma appear in the EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua set. Team-specific cards include Maxie (who lets the player pick a Team Magma Pokémon from the deck), Team Magma Schemer, Team Magma Conspirator, Team Magma Hideout, Team Magma Technical Machine 01, Team Magma Belt, Team Magma Ball, and Magma Energy. Also, the team has these Pokémon:
