Rage glitch: Difference between revisions

The term transform glitch refers to a glitch in HeartGold and SoulSilver. It occurs after a Transformed Pokémon uses the move Rage until the "Rage is building" message is shown followed by either capturing or defeating the enemy Pokémon.

At the end of the battle the user's Pokémon will have the same moveset as the Pokémon who knew Rage. Exploiting this glitch allows for Ditto to learn moves other than Transform and to subsequently pass down any egg move. If a Ditto manages to learn an egg move through this glitch the player may be able to pass it down in the daycare if the paired Pokémon is female.

The glitch allows any Pokémon capable of learning Transform, Mimic, Copycat, Assist or Metronome to learn any move (other than Chatter or Struggle) due to the possible incorporation of Smeargle.

Performing the glitch

Basic

It occurs after a Pokémon uses Transform, then uses the move Rage while transformed until the "Rage is building" message is shown. Then either the opponent must be caught, or the enemy Pokémon must be defeated by a move other than Rage. If the Pokémon trying to change its moves faints or switches out before the battle ends, the glitch will not work.

Extended

This glitch can also be exploited by using Transform through Mimic, Copycat, Metronome and Assist. However, it can only be performed within a double battle (unless the foe happens to be a Ditto). After the "Rage is building" message is displayed, the Pokémon that will change its moves must defeat the enemy. Additionally, the opponent cannot be defeated with Rage. If the Pokémon trying to change its moves faints or switches out before the battle ends, the glitch will not work.
