The instructor

The Pokémon League entrance exam instructor is a character of the day who appeared in The Ultimate Test. Because he was not given an official name, this article will refer to him by his title.

His job is to oversee the entrance exam for the Pokémon League. He also gives Poké Balls to the test-takers during the final portion of the test to compete in a battle against him.

Arbok (Japanese: アーボック Arbok) is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its only appearance was in The Ultimate Test, during the final portion of the exam.

Ash Ketchum sent it out to battle the instructor's Jolteon. Jolteon started with an Agility, while Ash tried to remember what attacks Arbok could learn. Then, Ash told Arbok to use Glare, which paralyzed Jolteon on the spot. Ash then commanded a Wrap attack, which failed, due to Jolteon's spikes. Jolteon then defeated Arbok by using Thunder. Ash was forced to switch Pokémon after this. Later on, however, when Team Rocket was attacking, Ash had Arbok, plus Weezing and Meowth, attack Team Rocket. Arbok hasn't been seen since.

Weezing (Japanese: マタドガス Matadogas) is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its only appearance was in The Ultimate Test, during the final portion of the exam.

Ash Ketchum sent it out to battle the instructor's Flareon, though was not too pleased with his choice. Weezing succeeded in dodging Flareon's Flamethrower attack, then on Ash's order, used a Smog attack. Flareon launched another Flamethrower at the smog, which exploded back on it. The instructor then told Flareon to use Leer, at which Ash told Weezing to use SmokeScreen to counter it. Flareon's Leer couldn't penetrate the smoke. Weezing then finished Flareon off with a Tackle attack. Ash was forced to switch Pokémon after this, so he couldn't continue to use Weezing. Later on, however, when Team Rocket was attacking, Ash had Weezing, plus Arbok and Meowth, attack Team Rocket. Then he had Weezing use Explosion, which caused Team Rocket to blast off. Weezing hasn't been seen since.

Meowth (Japanese: ニャース Nyarth) is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its only appearance was in The Ultimate Test, during the final portion of the exam.

Ash Ketchum sent it out to battle the instructor's Vaporeon. Team Rocket's Meowth cheered it on from the sidelines, telling Ash to have it use Fury Swipes. Ash did so, however, as Meowth went in to attack, Vaporeon froze it solid with an Ice Beam, at which point, Team Rocket's Meowth raced onto the field, scratched Ash's face for treating a Meowth like that, then shattered the ice encasing the Meowth, prompting Team Rocket to blow their cover. When Team Rocket was attacking, Ash had Meowth, plus Weezing and Arbok, attack Team Rocket. When Team Rocket blasted off, they blasted off with the wrong Meowth and left their Meowth behind. In the next episode, however, they seem to have switched back, as they have Meowth on them again, and the non-talking Meowth hasn't been seen since.

Pikachu (Japanese: ピカチュウ Pikachu) is one of the Pokémon owned by the Pokémon League entrance exam instructor. Its only appearance was in The Ultimate Test, during the final portion of the exam.

James of Team Rocket sent it out to battle the instructor's Graveler, at which James was overjoyed, exclaiming that he had been destroyed by Pikachu's attacks so many times that he knew them all by heart. However, Pikachu's Thunderbolt had no effect on the Graveler, at which James sent out Ivysaur and Charizard, and subsequently was expelled on the spot. He later used Pikachu to attack the instructor, but the instructor told Ivysaur, Charizard, and Pikachu to attack Team Rocket instead. Pikachu hasn't been seen since.
