History

Pre-series

As revealed in HZ018, Ludlow was Friede's mentor and let join him in his fishing on his boat. While in the Paldea region, Ludlow was fishing with Friede until he got a call from a teacher of his, Lucca. After Friede befriended a Pikachu and caught him as his partner, Ludlow was asked by him if he can have his boat, which he accepted. While at Slateport City in Hoenn, Ludlow met Friede's childhood friend Orla as she turned his fishing boat into an airship, as it became the Brave Olivine. Ludlow and Friede were joined by Orla as the three of them became the founding member of the Rising Volt Tacklers. Later, Ludlow would meet Mollie, Murdock, and his niece, Dot, as they joined the Rising Volt Tacklers. Ludlow also befriended a wild Quaxly that came to live on the Brave Olivine as it often joins him on his fishing.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Ludlow fishing with Dot's Quaxly

Ludlow debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All: Part One alongside the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, sitting at a bus stop looking at his Rotom Phone whilst the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers were looking for Liko at Indigo Academy. In the following episode, he was seen aboard the Brave Olivine.

In For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, Ludlow remained onboard the Brave Olivine while the others searched for Liko's Sprigatito, whom the Explorers had taken hostage, in the nearby city. Whilst fishing, he was unaware that Zirc had found the ship and placed a dispostive on the hull. In The Ancient Poké Ball, Ludlow and Quaxly found the device and destroyed it so the Explorers wouldn't come after the group again.

In HZ012, to everyone's surprise, Orla took Ludlow with her to a forest destroyed by a fire. When they got there, he sent out his Quagsire and ordered it to use Rain Dance, moistening the ground and allowing Arboliva to regrow the forest.

In HZ018, Ludlow was asked by the younger members as to how Captain Pikachu was able to fly during his battle against Roy in the previous episode, but could’t give them an answer because he didn't know himself. However, Ludlow decided to help the younger members get the answer they seek from Friede, which they were able to do as he tells everyone as to how he met Captain Pikachu and the formation of the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In HZ031, Ludlow decided to help the younger members find a Lapras, who happened to be one of Lucius's Pokémon, after they got a led through a ship crew that saw the Transport Pokémon. After finding it, they failed to get Lapras to come out, as there it covered itself with a Mist and two Pokémon appeared on the ship. When Friede devised a plan to get Lapras back, Ludlow took the wheel on the Brave Olivine. In the next episode, Ludlow continued steering the Brave Olivine when his teammates went after Lapras and its friends.

Character

Ludlow seems to prefer his own company, as he rarely interacts with the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers, preferring to go fishing instead. However, despite preferring to be by himself, Ludlow has shown to be very wise and would deliver advice to those who need it, especially towards the younger members of the team. Ludlow also doesn't mind having Dot's Quaxly or his Quagsire hang out with him sometimes. In addition, Ludlow has shown to care about nature and would help preserve it in any way he can, as seen in HZ012, when he decided to help restore a forest that had burned down.

Due to preferring to be by himself, Ludlow won't leave the Brave Olivine that often, as he would stay and watch over it whenever the rest of his teammates were absent. Ludlow seems to have a very good relationship with Friede as he was his mentor and stood by him when he decided to form the Rising Volt Tacklers. Ludlow also seems to get along well with the rest of the teammates.

Quaxly is a Pokémon that travels with the Rising Volt Tacklers and belongs to Dot. Unlike the other Pokémon aboard the Brave Olivine, Quaxly often stays with Ludlow, even after being officially caught by Dot in HZ016. In The Ancient Poké Ball, Quaxly found a tracker planted on the ship by Zirc and handed it to Ludlow for both of them to destroy. In HZ013, Quaxly attended a picnic with Ludlow and Dot.
