A high score event[1] is a type of limited-time event in Pokémon Masters EX in which players are challenged to take on five battles and aim to earn the highest score possible. Each event has a featured type that players must use in order to earn points. Players can earn rare rewards when their total score from all battles reaches certain thresholds for the first time.

Mechanics

Similar to the Champion Stadium, battles in high score events can be taken on in any order, a sync pair which has been used in one battle cannot be used in another battle, and players can reset battles to try to earn a higher score. Unlike the Champion Stadium, any number of battles can be reset at a time, allowing players to reset just one battle at a time to optimize their team for that battle. In addition, each battle may have an special rule that restricts the strategies players can use for that battle. This can be an advantage given to the opposing team, such as being immune to status and interference conditions, or a disadvantage given to the player's team, such as being unable to heal. However, some battles do not have any special rules.

The player's base score is determined by a few factors:

  • Battle rules
  • Challenge rules
  • Opponent strength increase

The battle rules are the criteria that all battles are graded upon. Each high score event has three different battle rules, and the player can receive up to 3,000 points for each battle rule based on how well they adhere to it. For example, in an event with the rule "more attacks", the player's score for that rule is determined by the total number of times allied sync pairs land attacks. For multi-strike attacks such as Bullet Seed, each strike that lands is counted as a separate attack. For moves that hit multiple targets, each target hit by the attack is counted as a separate attack. Sync moves and Max Moves do not count as attacks.

Challenge rules are certain conditions that, if met during the battle, will award the player with 1,000 bonus points. Challenge rules can involve something about the team's composition, such as using a sync pair with a certain theme skill, or something that happens during the battle, such as inflicting a status condition on an opponent. Depending on the individual rule for each battle, challenge rules may be unachievable in some battles.

Before the player starts a battle with an opponent, they are given the opportunity to increase the opponent's strength. Increasing an opponent's strength will increase their stats and therefore make them more difficult to defeat, but it will also add a number of points to the player's base score. Each level of strength increase will increase the player's base score by 30 to 50 points, depending on the current difficulty level. The battle will be given a difficulty level based on how many strength increases the player is applying, which is contextualized as a comparison to the stats of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1.

Difficulty Level Description Strength Increase Points Earned Point change per level
Minimum Maximum Minimum Maximum
Hard Your opponent's stats will be roughly equivalent to those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +0 +99 +0 +4,950 50
Very Hard Your opponent's stats will be roughly equivalent to two times those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +100 +199 +5,000 +8,960 40
Super Hard Your opponent's stats will be roughly equivalent to three times those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +200 +299 +9,000 +11,970 30
Ultra Hard Your opponent's stats will be roughly equivalent to four times those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +300 +399 +12,000 +14,970 30
Expert Your opponent's stats will be roughly equivalent to five times those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +400 +499 +15,000 +17,970 30
Master Your opponent's stats will be five or more times those of opponents in Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1. +500 +1,000 +18,000 +33,000 30

If the player tries to start a battle at Master difficulty, a confirmation window will pop up, asking if they're sure they want to battle such a strong opponent.

Each high score event has a featured type. All opponents are specialists in that type, and using sync pairs of the featured type multiplies the player's score for that battle by the number of sync pairs of the featured type that are used. So, using 3 sync pairs of the featured type provides a ×3 multiplier to the player's base score for that battle, and not using any sync pairs of the featured type provides a ×0 multiplier to the player's base score for that battle - meaning the player cannot earn any points for that battle.

Once the player has completed all battles, they unlock the ranking feature. This compares their best score from all battles to the best score from all players across the world, placing them at a certain ranking depending on their score. The top 10,000 players are considered Master Rank, and all players who are in Master Rank at the end of the event period will earn a medal.

Water-Type Masters

This high score event ran from July 11 to 25, 2023. It featured the Water type.
