Haunting My Dreams (Japanese: シオン塔 Shion Tower) is the fourth chapter of the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga.

Synopsis

A weary Ash finally arrives in front of the Saffron Gym. He asks for a challenge but faints when Sabrina arrives. Later, Ash and Pikachu are eating and talking with Sabrina. Sabrina tells him that she dreamt he was coming and Ash compliments her psychic skills.

Brock then arrives and joins in the conversation. He teases Ash if he has come to Saffron only to challenge Sabrina. Ash answers in annoyance that it is the only reason.

Sabrina accepts Ash’s challenge and fights using an Abra which was sleeping when the battle started. Sabrina tells Ash to go on with the battle since Abra can fight even while sleeping.

Ash then commands a ThunderShock from Pikachu, but before it could hit Abra, the Pokémon had teleported, dodging the attack. Pikachu then tried numerous ThunderShocks but Abra kept teleporting and dodging. Soon one of the ThunderShocks got reflected and fried Pikachu, making Ash lose the match.

Later at the Pokémon Center, they were talking again. Ash was expressing how amazing Psi attacks were and Sabrina warmly welcomed him to stay as long as he wants in the gym so he can watch how other trainers battle.

Nurse Joy appears and tells Sabrina that she has a phone call. Sabrina excused herself leaving the two boys. Brock quickly tells Ash that he thinks that Ash has a weakness for cute girls. Ash agrees and pumps his fist on it.

Ash then asks Brock why was he in Saffron in the first place. Brock answers that he and Sabrina were old friends and he was in the neighborhood. Ash then asks, JUST friends? Brock then responds by telling him not to rub it in since he gets depressed easily.

A week later, Sabrina was in a coma in a hospital. The phone call she had received was about the Black Fog, a high level Haunter who’s been preying on people and Pokémon’s soul for years.

A group of trainers explained what had happened. Sabrina had fallen prey to a Haunter’s Dream Eater attack and her soul has been sucked out. The group of trainers has vowed to get rid of the wretched Pokémon. Sabrina made the same vow since she wishes to exact revenge for her Pokémon who got wiped out by that Haunter back when she was 11. But when she was helping her friends last time, she herself had her soul sucked out by the Haunter’s Dream Eater Attack and ended up in a coma.

While they were discussing, Abra suddenly made a pen move and wrote Lavender Town on a clipboard. The group then realized that it is Sabrina. Even if she had her soul sucked out, she can still tell them where she is through telepathy. Ash then assumes that she may still be alive. Brock answers that there has been a guy who came back to life after the Haunter was defeated and agrees that they could bring Sabrina back.

Whipping out a Poké Ball, Ash suddenly exclaims that he’s catching himself a Haunter. Brock scolds the young trainer but Ash says that it is a Pokémon after all. But since it is big, they could always make a giant Poké Ball for it. The leader of the troupe laugh at Ash’s idea yet quickly agreed. It is a Pokémon after all and they could just catch it.

The group quickly finishes making a giant Poké Ball and stationed themselves outside the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town. The giant Poké Ball or Enormo Poké Ball XI has a capture net that’s a hundred times more powerful than an ordinary Poké Ball. Normal Pokémon have no chance against it.

The group then gets a report of the Haunter sleeping in the Tower. The leader quickly orders to move out. The first group enters the tower and lures the Gastly, the Haunter’ lackeys, out. After that, Ash enters and wakes the sleeping Haunter by throwing rocks at it. Brock is surprised that the Pokémon was could take solid shape.

After throwing another rock, the Haunter charged at the trainers. Ash and Brock quickly got their whole party to attack. Unfortunately, the Haunter was too strong and threw everyone to the wall using a strong psychic attack.

But before any of the Pokémon got crushed Sabrina combined her powers with Abra and neutralized the Haunter’s attack. The Haunter then used a Night Shade attack, which Ash responds by commanding Fearow to use Mirror Move. It reflected the attack but the Haunter quickly used Dream Eater, eating up the attack and defeating all the Pokémon.

Having no more opponents, the Haunter went for Abra. But Pikachu quickly got up, and saved Abra using Agility. The Haunter chased the two Pokémon out, luring it to the giant Poké Ball where it got caught.

But when everything seems to be over, the Haunter used Explosion. It destroyed the giant Poké Ball and escaped. The wounded leader said that even if it escaped, its health must be very low now and can be caught with just an ordinary Poké Ball.

Following Sabrina’s lead through Abra, Ash finds the Haunter hiding underground. Pikachu and Abra worked together and managed to land a devastating Thunder attack on the Pokémon. Ash sees his chance and throws a Hyper Ball.

Unfortunately, before it could reach the Pokémon, Haunter used Selfdestruct, killing itself and causing the underground cavern to collapse. The moment Haunter died, Sabrina woke up and teleported Ash to safety, who was about to be crushed by falling debris.

They teleported back up and saw the now-dead Haunter. Brock says that people used to worship Pokémon like gods. Maybe the Haunter was so used to being worshiped, it had rather kill itself than get captured. It went for an exit that’s fit for a god.

Sabrina started sobbing, saying that even if she had hated it for years, she couldn't help but feel sorry for it. She threw herself to Brock and started to cry it all out. Ash started to cry too as Brock tries to comfort Sabrina. Brock asks if he's sympathy-crying, but the boy responds that the ball he threw and that got destroyed was a Hyper Ball. He had bought it with the last of his allowance.
