Dawn's Mamoswine (Japanese: ヒカリのマンムー Hikari's Mammoo) was the fifth Pokémon captured by Dawn in the anime, and her sixth Pokémon in all. Its Japanese voice actor is Unshō Ishizuka. In Japanese, it was voiced by Inuko Inuyama as a Swinub and Piloswine. In English, it was voiced by Kayzie Rogers as a Swinub.
History
Mamoswine's debut was in Hungry for the Good Life! as a Swinub. It appeared at Mr. Backlot's mansion from a nearby forest. It caused trouble by devouring all of Dawn's Poffins, much to the displeasure of Dawn's other Pokémon. This revealed its gluttonous nature. However, after helping take down Team Rocket and rescue the other Pokémon, Dawn decided she wanted Swinub to go with her.
In Battling the Generation Gap!, Swinub watched its first Contest when it saw Dawn, Buneary and Ambipom work together to win the Celestic Town Pokémon Contest.
While still a Swinub, it was not used very much due to its relative lack of battling experience. It had a very cheerful personality and would often jump up and down in excitement. Swinub evolved into Piloswine in Sleepless in Pre-Battle in a battle against Team Rocket. After evolving, its personality drastically changed. Piloswine was still very affectionate towards Dawn, as seen in DP105 where it tackled her to the ground out of affection.
In DP106, just two episodes after evolving, Piloswine started to disobey Dawn. Knowing numerous powerful attacks, Piloswine felt much stronger and more confident than it did as a Swinub. It then attacked Piplup for touching its fur presumptuously. It started to develop an indifference towards Dawn and rushed towards her only after she threw its favorite food, Poffins, around, forcing it to run around to eat the Poffins. It even tried to attack Dawn with Ice Shard. It used Ice Shard and froze half the body of Grotle, who tried to stop it from rampaging. Immediately after that, it rushed all the way towards Dawn and the others, nearly crushing everyone, only to be stopped by Brock's muscular Happiny. Dawn agreed to have a battle with her Piloswine and Ash's Grotle. However, it ignored Dawn's commands and used AncientPower instead.
It later evolved again into Mamoswine after being attacked by Team Rocket. Unfortunately, it has kept its bad behavior from when it was a Piloswine, and even charged at the gang in a rage, only to be stopped by Brock, who told Dawn to return it to its Poké Ball. Despite this, Dawn is still eager to train Mamoswine well.
In battle, Mamoswine has shown to be incredibly powerful thanks to its large and powerful physique. It was shown to take Piplup's BubbleBeam, Whirlpool and Peck in quick succession with no resistance at all as well as knocking it out for the third time in DP106.
In DP109, Dawn tried to call for its help removing a broken manhole cover, but it turned its back to Dawn and refused. Dawn then bribed it with Poffins in order to follow. Although it did help, it then happily threw Dawn and Piplup into the air, eating the Poffins while it was left to Happiny to catch them.
In DP114, Mamoswine wasn't really excited to watch Dawn in the contest. Instead, it just slept with a pompom on its head. Later on, during Dawn's battle with Urara, Mamoswine seemed to watch with interest, seeing Dawn and Pachirisu use Pachirisu's new move to the fullest.
In DP119, Mamoswine was injured during a battle against a wild Aggron. Dawn and her Pokémon used the first aid skills taught to her by Brock in Doc Brock! to help Mamoswine recover, and later attempted to protect Mamoswine against Team Rocket. As a result, Mamoswine started obeying Dawn and under her instructions was able to defeat Aggron.
In DP123 it showed interest in Contests again.

Trivia
- Mamoswine, alongside Ash's Gliscor, are the only Pokémon in the parties of Ash and his friends to be absent from the original Sinnoh Dex (though Jessie of Team Rocket has Yanmega, Seviper, and Wobbuffet, and Paul owns Electabuzz, Ursaring, and Gliscor).
- Mamoswine, as a Swinub, is the first capture Dawn has made since Buizel, exactly 50 episodes before. It is also her only capture in which she didn't battle the Pokémon twice, or even at all.
- Mamoswine, as a Swinub, is the fifth, and most recent, Pokémon introduced in Generation II that is in the party of a member of the main cast during the Diamond & Pearl series.
- Mamoswine, as a Swinub, is also the second Pokémon that Dawn owns that was introduced in a generation other than the one she was introduced in, the first being Aipom. Like Aipom, Piloswine has a Generation IV evolved form.
- Mamoswine is the fourth Pokémon in the Pokémon anime to evolve by knowing a certain move, following Brock's Sudowoodo, Dawn's Ambipom and Jessie's Yanmega, and is the second Pokémon of Dawn's to evolve by this method.
- Mamoswine is also the second Pokémon to evolve by learning the move AncientPower, the first being Jessie's Yanmega, which also evolved rather quickly after being captured.
- Mamoswine, as a Swinub, has some similarities with May's Munchlax: Mamoswine loves to eat mass quantities of Poffin; likewise, May's Munchlax enjoys mass quantities of Pokéblock (the Generation III counterpart of the Poffin).
- So far, Mamoswine is Dawn's only dual-type Pokémon.
- Mamoswine is Dawn's second evolved Pokémon, the first being Ambipom. Both are final forms of a Generation II evolution family. Coincidentally, both need to know a specific move to evolve.
- Sleepless in Pre-Battle, the episode in which Swinub evolves into Piloswine, first aired in Japan in the same week that Hungry For the Good Life!, the episode in which Swinub is captured, first aired in the United States. The same thing happened to Ash's Gliscor.
- Mamoswine is the first Pokémon in the current saga to appear evolved in an opening prior to its actual evolution being shown. Furthermore, it was as a Mamoswine.
- It was changed back to a Piloswine in the opening of DP106, despite it evolving in that episode. The inclusion as a Mamoswine in Sleepless in Pre-Battle's opening was an error.
- Mamoswine is similar to Ash's Charizard in many aspects.
- Both were caught in their base forms without having to be fought.
- Both are the fifth Pokémon captured by their Trainers (Mamoswine is the sixth Dawn actually obtained, but Ambipom was obtained in a trade, and not truly captured).
- Both of them disobeyed their Trainers when they evolved, but were both quite loyal to their Trainers in their base forms. They also have three Evolutionary Stages, and started to disobey at their second.
- Both evolved to their final forms within a short span of episodes and retained their disobedience.
- Both were the second Pokémon on their respective teams to evolve to their final forms (the first being Butterfree for Ash and Ambipom for Dawn).
- Both resolved their disobedience issues after getting injured in a battle and then being nursed back to health by their Trainers. They then battle and win against the same Pokémon that injured them.
- Like many other main characters' Pokémon, Mamoswine was obtained after the Pokémon's species' debut in a movie.
- When it evolved from Swinub to Piloswine, it became the first Pokémon in the anime to evolve in the UK before The USA.
- Mamoswine is Dawn's only Pokémon that has not yet been used in a Contest.
- Team Rocket is Mamaoswine's trigger when it evolved in DP104 and DP106.
