Release information
This card was included in the Base Set as a Trainer card with artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack. This print was later reprinted in the Base Set 2 expansion, the Japanese Nivi City Gym, Tamamushi City Gym, and Yamabuki City Gym Theme Decks, both decks of the Japanese Quick Starter Gift Set, and in the Legendary Collection expansion.
It was later reclassified in the Black & White expansion as an Item card with new artwork by Kent Kanetsuna, previously released in the Japanese Beginning Set, Beginning Set for Girls, and Black Collection. It was later reprinted in the Japanese Beginning Set + and Beginning Set Pikachu Version rereleases of the original Black & White Beginning Set, and in the Plasma Blast expansion, first released in the Japanese Blastoise + Kyurem-EX Combo Deck.
Energy Retrieval was again reprinted with new artwork by 5ban Graphics as one of the XY-P Promotional cards available in the Card Box Xerneas•Yveltal including Energy Card from December 13, 2013. This print was later included in February 2015's Primal Clash expansion.
