Involving Team GO Rocket
On October 26, 2019, Blanche had an initial encounter with Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff while testing the Rocket Radar with Professor Willow, who warned them that they were "encroaching on Team GO Rocket territory" and asked them to leave. Unprepared for a battle, Blanche and Willow agreed to retreat.

Blanche (Pokémon GO 64)
Blanche was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Sword & Shield Series (the Japanese Sword & Shield Era). It was first released in the Japanese and English Pokémon GO expansions, with artwork by Anesaki Dynamic. It was also released as a Full Art card and Secret card in the same Japanese and English expansions, with artwork by the same artist. It allows the player to draw two cards and then flip a coin. If heads, they can attach a Water Energy card from their discard pile to one of their Benched Pokémon.

** In the German translations, Blanche was at first referred to as female as well. However, more recently, such as on the German Season of Heritage website, the translation uses the deliberately gender-neutral title of "Teamleiter*in" to refer to Blanche's status as a Team Leader. The German social media accounts stopped using gendered pronouns for Blanche after 2020.

Blanche (Japanese: ブランシェ Blanche) is the leader of Team Mystic (Japanese: チームミスティック Team Mystic), one of the three teams in Pokémon GO. Team Mystic is researching Pokémon Evolution and is represented by Articuno. Team Mystic Trainers believe that by staying calm and analyzing every situation, they cannot lose.

Blanche is one of Professor Willow's assistants, along with Spark and Candela. Highly analytical, Blanche often loses track of time when doing research. Blanche tends to get embarrassed when proven wrong and does not take jokes well.[1][2]

History

Involving Team GO Rocket

On October 26, 2019, Blanche had an initial encounter with Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff while testing the Rocket Radar with Professor Willow, who warned them that they were "encroaching on Team GO Rocket territory" and asked them to leave. Unprepared for a battle, Blanche and Willow agreed to retreat.[3]

On November 7, 2019[4], Blanche sent the following message in response to Team GO Rocket Leader Cliff:

"Your impression of me is out of date, Cliff. I don’t need to think hard to know that your attempts to take over will fail. I suggest you rethink before you choose to approach me."'

On November 12, 2019, Blanche successfully tracked down Cliff's location using the Rocket Radar and defeated him in a one-sided battle.[5]

On July 26, 2020, during Pokémon GO Fest 2020, Cliff battled Blanche. Blanche initiated the battle by sending out a Lapras, while Cliff sent a Shadow Tyranitar.[6] Tyranitar used Stone Edge but Lapras retaliated with Hydro Pump.[7] In the end, Blanche won the battle when Giovanni recalled Cliff to him along with the other Team GO Rocket Leaders. Professor Willow, Blanche, Candela, Spark and their Pokémon then witnessed the Pokémon GO Fest 2020 fireworks show in the sky.[8]

Trivia

  • Although the English version of the game and social media accounts avoid using gendered pronouns when referring to Blanche,[11] the Spanish, French, Italian, and Brazilian Portuguese translations refer to Blanche as female.
    • In the German translations, Blanche was at first referred to as female as well. However, more recently, such as on the German Season of Heritage website,[12] the translation uses the deliberately gender-neutral title of "Teamleiter*in" to refer to Blanche's status as a Team Leader. The German social media accounts stopped using gendered pronouns for Blanche after 2020.
