Groudon Returns (Japanese: グラードン、戻る Groudon, Return) is the 608th chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga.
Plot
As Red and Green battle Maxie and Archie, they are surprised to see that they are joined by two more people—Amber and Blaise. The ground begins to rumble, and Red and Green are shocked to see Kyogre and Groudon heading toward their opponents. Amber is surprised to see Mega Evolution for the first time, and he and Blaise learn that despite their different appearances, Maxie and Archie are indeed the same ones who led Team Magma and Team Aqua four years ago. Amber reveals that he was the one to awaken Kyogre and Groudon in order to rebuild Team Aqua, and that he and Blaise used Hoopa to do it.
Red attempts to stop Maxie and Archie from using the Red and Blue Orbs by having Saur attack, but Groudon and Kyogre protect them. Maxie and Archie reveal that Groudon and Kyogre seek each orb's ability to restore their powers, and Blaise is shocked that the two already know about Primal Reversion. Maxie explains to Blaise that 2,000 years earlier, Hoenn was filled with "Nature Energy," a special energy that gradually became harder to find over time. Because of its scarcity, Kyogre and Groudon are no longer able to stay in their primal forms. With the power of the orbs, Maxie and Archie use Primal Reversion on Groudon and Kyogre.
Near the S.S. Tidal, Ruby and Emerald are frightened as dozens of illusory portals surround them. Ruby urges Emerald not to be distracted by Blaise's tricks, guiding him to defeat the Slugma that is creating them. The two manage to free themselves of the illusions. They begin to head back to the ship on Latios and Latias, when suddenly the sky begins to brighten and the air becomes hot. The two are surprised to see Kyogre and Groudon in different forms. They try to get closer, but Latios notes that there is some kind of energy that is pushing them back.
Through heavy rainfall and intense heat, Red and Green manage to defeat the Mega Camerupt and Mega Sharpedo that were up against them. Maxie and Archie reveal that the changes of the weather are due to the Abilities of the primal forms of Groudon and Kyogre. Groudon unleashes a powerful attack against Saur and Blasty, burying them under the earth.
As Ultima, Drake, and Mr. Briney continue sailing on the S.S. Tidal, they are shocked to see Kyogre emerge from the sea, followed by a storm. Ruby and Emerald watch in despair as the S.S. Tidal is overcome by the ocean. Emerald urges Ruby to help them, but through tears, Ruby tells him to prioritize their mission of protecting the world.
Meanwhile at Mossdeep City, Steven and his father pass through a crowd of panicked journalists as they make their way to the Space Center. Upon entering, Mr. Stone tells Professor Cozmo that he intends to launch the rocket as soon as possible. Steven heads straight for Sapphire as soon as he sees her, relieved that she is okay. Cozmo's Scientists inform him that she is still unable to speak, and that she hasn't been eating. Steven blames himself for keeping the truth from Sapphire, feeling responsibility for her decline in health. As Mr. Stone announces his plan to launch the rocket in thirty minutes, Sapphire begins to poke Steven's shoulder. Tapping his hand, she communicates that she is able to use her advanced senses to detect Zinnia nearby, and that she wants to go after her so she will not interfere with the rocket launch. In order to camouflage herself, Sapphire removes her colorful overshirt and accessories, then rubs a Berry on her skin.
Zinnia is standing on a tree and spying on the Mossdeep Space Center, when suddenly the branch she is balanced on is sliced through. After hitting the ground, she looks up to see Sapphire and her Gallade above her. When Zinnia sends out her Goodra and Salamence, Sapphire summons Rono. Their Pokémon charge at each other, beginning a Double Battle.
