Special abilities
Lunatone's ability, Levitate, allows it to avoid Ground-type moves such as Earthquake or Magnitude.

Lunatone's power and health seems to be tied directly to the phases of the moon. When there is a full moon, Lunatone is at the peak of its strength. Presumably when there is a new moon, Lunatone is all but defenseless.

Origin
Lunatone is obviously a rock shaped like a cresent moon.
Name origin
Lunatone's name is a combination of the Latin luna, meaning moon, and tone, meaning shade or light, referring to not only this Pokémon's appearance but also its affinity for moonlight. It could also be a combination of luna and stone, simply referring to a moon-shaped rock.
