Factory Head Noland (Japanese: ファクトリーヘッド ダツラ, Factory Head Datsura) is the Frontier Brain in charge of the Battle Frontier's Battle Factory. He is voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama in Japanese and John Campbell in English

His position as head of the factory allows Noland to view the Battle Swap data for any trainers. He instructs others that just reading isn't enough to learn about Pokémon, instead a trainer must gain experience. He battles with rental Pokémon the same as any trainer in the Battle Factory, and awards the Knowledge Symbol onto the Frontier Pass of trainers who defeat him.

Noland and Ash Ketchum

Noland appeared in two episodes of the anime; Numero Uno Articuno and The Symbol Life. Rather than battling with random Pokémon, Noland allows the opponent to choose who they will battle against. They can choose from these Pokémon:

In addition to owning these Pokémon, Noland has also befriended a wild Articuno which he occasionally uses in battles. Ash Ketchum chose to battle Articuno with his Charizard and eventually defeated them.

In the manga

Noland is the first Frontier Brain fought by Emerald in Pokémon Special. He uses Mawile, Golem, and Glalie and respects Emerald, launching into a lenthly discussion about strategy after the battle.

Misc

A promotional Battle Frontier t-shirt sold at the New York Pokémon Center pictured Noland with Typhlosion, Steelix, and Electabuzz in the same way other Frontiers were pictured with their own Pokémon.
