Gifting a side mission

As of November 6, 2025, a new Side Mission was announced and added to Pokémon Legends: Z-A. You don’t need to have purchased the DLC in order to unlock it, but you will need to have completed the main story, meaning that you have finished the battle with Ange Floette and rolled the credits. Once you’ve finished, you'll be able to claim a new item from Mystery Gifts. From the menu select Link Play then Mystery Gifts and Get via the Internet. Then select Shine Bright like a Gemstone. This will reward you with the Diancite and a new side Mission will appear on the map.

Head over to the Looker Bureau and speak to Mimi the Espurr. This will start Side Mission EX 1: Shine Bright like a Gemstone. Emma says that Mimi is sensing some unusual psychic energy. Typically Mimi doesn't pay attention to this energy because it tires her out, but this time it must be something important.

Following the trail

Turn on guidance for the side mission to make it easier to follow Emma and Mimi. Speak to them and they will relocate to a bakery stall nearby. Mimi will then allow you to hear Emma's thoughts and you’ll find out that she's hungry. Ask her about it and the two of you will sit down to eat. Emma then assumes that her hunger was the psychic energy Mimi was picking up.

However, Mimi isn't finished and you will then need to follow the pair across to the other side of town. You don’t need to do this on foot, you can just fast travel to a spot nearby. Approach the Holovator they are standing next to and Mimi will tell you to head for the rooftops.

Ascend the Holovator and take a right over the bridge. You will then need to jump the gap to the next building using Roto-glide. Climb the ladder up to a higher rooftop, walk over the Spinarak web, and take a left over another bridge to meet up with Emma and Mimi again.

Catching Diancie

The two detectives are surrounded by Mega Crystals; far more than usual. Two Carbink will then land on the rooftop followed by the mythical Pokémon Diancie. This is the only way that you can catch it in Legends: Z-A, and it’s the 231st Pokémon in the game. Emma will then tell you to catch it. Approach Diancie and Carbink to start the battle. The Carbink are level 66 and the Diancie is level 70. They set up Reflect, Light Screen and Stealth Rocks, so they can be quite annoying to take down. They are very weak to Steel-type attacks, and the fight is made easier if you defeat the Carbink first.

You can throw balls both during the battle, and after Diancie has been defeated. Unlike the other legendary Pokémon in this game, Diancie maintains a very low catch rate, and so it might take a few attempts to catch. Don't worry if it breaks out of your ball, Emma will just tell you to try the fight again. She will heal your Pokémon between each attempt, and you can try as many times as you need to.

A new Mega

Once caught, Emma will congratulate you on a job well done, and ask to see Diancie. She will then tell you about Anistar’s Sundial, a sundial in Anistar City that has a connection to Mega Stones. She then tells you that Professor Sycamore used to discuss Mega Stones with AZ as it's believed that they were created 3000 years ago when he fired the Ultimate Weapon. As Lysandre fired the Ultimate Weapon five years ago, Emma believes this is when more Mega Stones were created, explaining the new Mega Pokémon that recently appeared.

Before returning to the Looker Bureau, Emma comments that AZ saw a phenomenon in Hoenn that could have been the start of all Mega Evolutions. With that Side Mission EX 1: Shine Bright like a Gemstone will be completed and you'll be rewarded with $10,000 and an Exp. Candy XL alongside Diancie.
