The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! -- G50 07:10, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

You're still neglecting to use it. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 18:42, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
I apologize for the wait. I'll do as you say from now onward. Solemn Mac (talk) 20:05, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
I'm really sorry! I'm only correcting some errors. May you please forgive me? I am using the Preview Button often and improving. Solemn Mac (talk) 23:33, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Egg Pokémon (Masters)

Hey there, I saw you had an issue with saving an edit here, I can retrieve the diff and re-save it for you to save you having to type it all up again, the issue was consecutive use of break tags, if you're going to use two of them in a row it's recommended instead you use a blank line between instead. Specifically, you had it when listing the Mon's that could use X-Speed. --Spriteit (talk) 01:26, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Happy to help ^^.--Spriteit (talk) 01:45, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

"Core series of games"

Please refrain from using this phrase or replacing the term "core series games" with this phrase. We say "core series games" throughout the wiki. That is our style. Bulbapedia does not conform to Grammarly or any other particular style guide. Bulbapedia has its own style, and any changes to this style should at least be discussed with the community first, and almost always require approval from the Editorial Board. Thank you. Landfish7 06:53, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

(Clarification: You can use this phrase all you want on talk pages or on your user page, but do not add it to mainspace articles. We don't phrase it that way anywhere on the wiki. Whereas the phrase "core series games" is used in over 2,000 articles.) Landfish7 06:59, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

(Further clarification: Most minor stylistic disputes can be settled without involvement of staff or the Editorial Board, as long as you can reach an agreement or consensus, but changes to the overall style of Bulbapedia, or that affect a significant number of articles across the mainspace, may require staff approval or approval from one or more members of the Editorial Board.) Editing comments

Please be advised that editing comments is against the talk page policy and can be disruptive, as someone responding to your comment may be required to rewrite what they were saying or incorporate it into the new version of the page. It also leaves the incorrect time stamp. Thank you. Landfish7 02:41, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

  • Understood. Thank you for the notification. Yet, although I'm aware that editing comments of others is against the rules, but may I please ask where the talk page policy or code of conduct specifies against someone editing their own comments? (I acknowledge and respect the rule "Please do not edit another user's discussion—even if it's full of spelling errors," but surely that does not specify me not being allowed to edit my own comments, correct?) Please understand: I will obey your authority. I only ask to see which specific displayed rule I broke. Solemn Mac (talk) 03:57, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
To be clear, I am not an admin or staff member, but staff does enforce the rule, as while it is not outright stated in the talk page policy, it breaks other rules of the talk page policy and signature policy, such as new comments being required to be at the bottom of the section with their own signature and time stamp, and users not being allowed to add or replace their signature in a separate edit. Trivia

Hi Solemn Mac. Thanks for your recent edits to the Masters pages and your ongoing help with these! However I have noticed that you've been adding trivia to many of these pages as well, most of which are not notable. Knowing what is notable comes with practice and time, however a few tips I can give you is that trivia like: 'Rosa was the first ___' or 'Rosa along with Cheren and Blaine are ___' generally do not constitute notable trivia. Something very specific like 'Rosa is the only non-Tech Grass-type which has __ theme skill' are not notable (note that this is just an example, not actual trivia that I removed from the pages). There were also some borderline-notable trivia which I've kept on the pages for now. If you wanted specific feedback about why each trivia was removed, I'm happy to answer any questions! --Wowy(talk) 11:46, 17 August 2022 (UTC)

Firstly, thank you so much for expressing gentleness, respect, and openness while you talk straight! I find these qualities refreshing after not getting them from fellow editors for over a year. Secondly, may you please explain why following trivia does not count as being notable: "[Y] and [Z] are the only Trainers each to have three unique sets of voiced lines in one year"? Thirdly, would the following count as being noteworthy: "[Y] is the only Trainer to be a featured character in four events of one year"? Solemn Mac (talk) 08:09, 19 August 2022 (UTC)
Hey sorry for the late reply! I don't feel '[Y] and [Z] are the only Trainers each to have three unique sets of voiced lines in one year' would be notable, as the voiced lines themselves are already a niche aspect of the game. Also correct me if this is incorrect, but doesn't the number of unique voice clips just (approx) equal the number of alts the character received in that year?
Also, for the trivia point '[Y] is the only Trainer to be a featured character in four events of one year', I'm not too sure why how many times a character was represented in an event would be particularly notable. Not too sure how to put it into words but I don't feel its something that readers will need to know about. Hope that helps! --Wowy(talk) 05:24, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Metronome in Masters

Hi, I noticed that you added chances for calling specific moves via Metronome in Pokemon Masters. I'm interested in the source of those percentages, especially Fissure. 1% seems a bit too high from the experience. Itan (talk) 17:01, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

My source is this conversation: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMasters/comments/w7gzsy/weekly_general_and_questions_megathread/ihl450s/?context=3.
Your experience with this move sound intriguing. May you please explain your interpretation of it to me? Solemn Mac (talk) 23:32, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
Oh. That's just speculation then - notice how it's worded: "The odds are likely 1% or less. The other moves are most likely 11% each". And the guy even quotes Voltage, one of dataminers in PM Discord, stating that there's no known odds of Metronome moves. I haven't seen any precise odds making an appearance ever since - if they're stored on server side, there's nothing you can do to get them out, no matter how much time passes.
Fissure is an extremely rare move to get, from the footage I've seen and from claims I've heard. Haven't scouted Spring Burgh myself, so I have to rely on that for now. 1% is a bit too high, too consistent. Yes, it lines up perfectly with 18*5.5% + 1% = 100%, but it could just as easily be 0.01%, with other rates being slightly more than 5.5%. Not like it's hard to code imperfect odds.
So since those odds are just a speculation, they should be removed from the page. I'll leave this up to you then, don't forget to note it was unsourced guesses and such, people might wonder where they came from and why they are gone. Itan (talk) 22:08, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm doing as you say this instant. Solemn Mac (talk) 05:52, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Tooltips (tt)

Hey! I've been going through a bunch of move pages to update links, and I noticed the Masters sections often include heavy usage of tooltips (the {{tt}} template). I know you enjoy editing those sections, so I wanted to make sure you know that we've recently begun to avoid using tooltips/removing the usage of them wherever possible, as they're completely inaccessible to mobile users. Information that might be put in a tooltip should be included in text or tables on the page, or there should be a link to another page that includes that information. Would you mind implementing that on the Masters sections of move pages? If you're not sure how, we can talk through some examples together. Storm Aurora (talk) 00:40, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

  • Thank you for the information! Throughout this month and the next, I'll change those sections you mentioned and the following areas accordingly: Egg Pokémon (Masters), List of moves (Masters), and PMEX's sections in the terrain article! Solemn Mac (talk) 03:49, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
    • You must be feeling annoyed because I have not acted on this request of yours recently. I am sorry, but I assure you that this is still fresh in my mind!
    • Yet, I have one question about this: What happens if protected templates like {{MoveInfobox}} and tables like the list of Furisode Girls outside of Battle Maison in Pokémon X and Y (link here) keep their tool tips? Solemn Mac (talk) 17:42, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
No, I'm not annoyed, I appreciate the work you've done removing tooltips so far! I've just been going through the move pages and making sure they're up-to-date, and if there are tooltips in a section I'm editing, I remove those while I'm at it.
As for those other instances of tooltips you've mentioned, they will ideally have their tooltips removed, but it's not high on our priority list at the moment to fix those issues in decades-old templates that are used across hundreds of pages ^^; Like I said before, we're trying to remove the usage of tooltips wherever possible, but they're often still used because no one's come up with a good solution that doesn't use tooltips. For example, in sync pair availability sections, scouts that could only be used with paid gems are denoted with a tooltip because I can't figure out how else to easily convey that information. If you feel that any information is a) important and b) can't be easily displayed or noted in a different way, then it's alright to leave it in a tooltip. Storm Aurora (talk) 20:31, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for all that information and for taking initiative on this! So, I will keep removing needless tooltips that I have added, and if I happen to find a better way to display scouts that can only be used with paid gems, I will let you know! Solemn Mac (talk) 15:50, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Forms

Good work with your edit on the Masters moves list. However, please remember to use the {{form}} template whenever necessary to avoid creating redirect links. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 09:35, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

I'm sorry—redirect links? Solemn Mac (talk) 02:08, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Most (if not all) page names for forms (like Midnight Form, Midday Form, Therian Forme, etc.) aren't proper articles; they just redirect to the appropriate section on the List of Pokémon with form differences article. These redirects generally exist to help people find the information they're looking for without having to make a standalone page for the subject; Bulbapedia policy is to avoid linking to redirects wherever possible. We have many link templates to make it easy to link things properly, and the {{form}} template is used for linking form names. See the template page (linked both in this comment and Finnish's) for more information about what it does and how to use it! Storm Aurora (talk) 20:49, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Actually, I believe {{fd}} should be used over {{form}}, since more detailed info is now on the Form data section of species pages rather than the form differences page. → PikaTepig999 22:34, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
Woah! Please pardon my ignorance! I never would have used redirect links if I knew all that before! So, I absolutely will replace each instance of those with {{fd}}! How does that sound? Solemn Mac (talk) 15:39, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
Sounds like a good plan! Storm Aurora (talk) 20:01, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
