SV location coverage methodology

Trainers

Province subregions are massive and have a higher number of opponents than previous games. As all Trainers are potentially available at once, there is no way to filter as in previous walkthroughs. The amount of Trainer data in a given area is sizeable, and may be better accessed by a direct link to the respective location page.

  • For a full list of Trainers,
    see [the location page].

Available Pokémon

As all Pokémon can be encountered at any point after reaching an area, there is no way to filter the details by availability as in previous walkthroughs. Due to the volume of simultaneously relevant data, it is likely better accessed by a direct link to the respective location page.

  • For a full list of Pokémon,
    see [the location page].

Items

Previous walkthroughs list all of an area's items together. For simplicity's sake, the higher volume of items in SV can be sorted into the following categories.

  • "Gifted" items are those obtained from an NPC.
  • "Found" items are those discovered in the overworld in red or yellow Poké Balls, marked by beams of light. Due to difficult terrain, some items may be inaccessible without unlocking the abilities of Koraidon and Miraidon.
  • "Hidden items" are those marked by a golden sparkle on the ground. These items do not seem to have fixed locations; rather, each has a certain chance of appearing among a pool of other items in a given subregion. Hidden items appear capable of regeneration, and may appear elsewhere than where they were first obtained. Quantities appear to be variable, seemingly ranging from one to three at a time.

Found

More research is needed to pinpoint item locations. As providing specific location details as before forces a bloated dropdown list, it may be more efficient to display only the items available in each area. Full location details are likely better suited to remain on the location page.

Items listed may be found in multiple locations. Quantities may vary.
Some items may be inaccessible without the legendary dragons.

Trainer Tips callout

Normal walkthrough sections are intended to restrict coverage to the in-game knowledge of the main character, not that of the player, in order to avoid spoiling any future details. A callout similar to the Trainer Tips signposts may address the player directly and provide important info or recommendations when necessary.

Sinnoh: Oreburgh City

Trainer Tips
Machop, the Superpower Pokémon

Abra can be difficult to catch due to their low encounter rate and tendency to flee from battle. These factors make for a useful trade, but be sure to catch a spare Machop on Route 207. Grass and Water Pokémon, like Turtwig and Piplup, will do well on their own against the Rock Pokémon of Oreburgh Gym, but Fire Pokémon like Chimchar will appreciate the backup.

Choosing a first partner Pokémon

An update to the first partner selection display seeks to integrate the background info for each Pokémon.

Trainer Tips!
Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon

The Grass-type Sprigatito does well against Water-, Rock-, and Ground-type Pokémon. It also has the most weaknesses of the trio, faring poorly against Fire-, Flying-, Bug-, Poison-, and Ice-type attacks. Sprigatito and its evolutionary family excel in Speed. As it grows, it gains a secondary Dark type.

Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon

The Fire-type Fuecoco is great when battling Grass-, Bug-, Ice-, and Steel-type Pokémon, but is vulnerable to Water-, Rock-, and Ground-type moves. Fuecoco and its evolutionary relatives excel in Special Attack. As it grows, it gains a secondary Ghost type.

Quaxly, the Duck Pokémon

The Water-type Quaxly has an advantage when facing Fire-, Rock-, and Ground-type Pokémon, but may struggle against Grass- and Electric-type attacks. Quaxly and its evolutionary family excel in physical Attack. As it grows, it gains a secondary Fighting type.
