History

Pre-series

As revealed during a flashback in Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Orla has owned Metagross since it was a Metang back when she was working as an engineer for the docks at Slateport City in the Hoenn region. Then, Metang helped Orla build the Brave Olivine and joined its Trainer when she decided to join the Rising Volt Tacklers. Eventually, Metang evolved into a Metagross before the events in The Pendant That Starts It All: Part One.

Metagross and Elekid
Metagross's super-intelligence

Metagross debuted in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, where it was present when Orla and the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers were making Liko feel welcome aboard the Brave Olivine.

In Found You, Fuecoco!, Metagross battled alongside Murdock's Rockruff against Onia's Golduck and Zirc's Rhydon, where Metagross was heavily injured during it, as it was busy protecting a group of Krabby so they won't get hurt in the battle.

In Orla and the Poké Ball Smith, Metagross battled a wild Galarian Weezing, and defeated it. However, Weezing came back with more of them, but Orla decided to use the Poké Ball factory smoke to feed them. During the process, Metagross used its psychic abilities to prevent the building from collapsing in case the building got overloaded.

In Orla, Grounded, Metagross, along with Elekid, was shown to have stayed with Orla at Karna's workshop in the year since the Rising Volt Tacklers disbanded, although both it and Elekid kept worrying for Orla's newfound withdrawn demeanor. After Liko, Roy, Dot, and Ult arrived to request the Brave Olivine, Metagross and Elekid tried to encourage to confront her fears and rejoin the Rising Volt Tacklers.

In The Catcher in the Sky, Orla used Metagross and its superior intelligence to perform the mathematical calculations so that Friede could return safely to the Brave Olivine.

Personality and characteristics

Metagross and Orla

Metagross is a very helpful Pokémon, often assisting its Trainer with repairs around the Brave Olivine. When Orla was exhausted after spending all night fixing gas leaks around the airship, Metagross helped its Trainer by carrying her around and allowing her to use its body to sleep when she finally had some free time to nap. It is also often used by Orla as a means of transportation, flying to whenever she needs to go should the situation call for it, as shown in The Bittersweet Truth, when Metagross flew Orla to Motostoke to buy some ship parts. It also helps the Rising Volt Tacklers with their groceries as its sturdy and large body is perfect to carry the heaviest of bags without any effort, as seen in A Challenge from the Explorers.

Metagross also seems to have a very good relationship with its teammate Elekid, as they both help Orla with repairs around the Brave Olivine. When not working, Metagross and Elekid often spend time playing together, as seen in Tinkatink's Ideal Hammer.
