The contents of this page should be merged back into Cut (move). There's nothing about this topic that really transcends the move in a way that necessitates separate coverage, nor do I think the topic is particularly notable for its own page. Landfish7 12:07, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm actually thinking it might make more sense to primarily cover it on the tall grass page. Not to say that Cut (move) shouldn't also have information about the mechanic, but that at least this title should probably redirect to the "Grass cutting" section of tall grass rather than the out-of-battle section of Cut (move). --SnorlaxMonster 13:05, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- That makes sense! Landfish7 13:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. Would make sense. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 14:02, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Covering it on the tall grass page would also be consistent with how we handle other field moves and the objects they interact with. For example, we cover how Strength interacts with boulders on movable boulder (not a separate "moving boulders" page), we cover how Rock Smash interacts with breakable rocks on that page, and so on. --SnorlaxMonster 14:04, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- I suggest keeping this page. There are some examples of Pokémon cutting grass without using Cut in the anime and manga.
- It could be just me, but I found it a bit confusing how there were multiple "Generation I", "Generation II" and so on in the Cut page when it was explaining both about cutting plants and grass, and about other unrelated Cut mechanics.
- At least in my experience, sometimes I also noticed random people online trying to explain how the cutting grass mechanic worked but they were often incorrect, so I suppose they were unable to find the grass cutting mechanic on Bulbapedia.
- I think the title "Grass cutting" is fine, but technically the title "Cuttable grass" would be in line with both Cuttable plant and Movable boulder. We can consider the fact that not all grass is cuttable in the games. In Gen I, the grass in Viridian Forest and Safari Zone is not cuttable. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 07:08, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think listing out times when grass has been cut in other media is something we need to have compiled somewhere. If anything, these would be better to cover on the Tall grass page as actual examples of Pokémon hiding in tall grass. Landfish7 13:01, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Additionally, cuttable plants and movable boulders are notable obstacles that players must overcome to complete most early games. "Cuttable grass" is just a property of certain types of tall grass, and is not something most players will deal with during their playthrough. You'll notice that variants like long grass and seaweed don't have their own pages. I think we can have "Grass cutting" or "Cuttable grass" redirect to the information on the main Tall grass page insead, if the concern is people's ability to find the information they need. - I agree with Landfish. "Cuttable grass" isn't a distinct concept from "tall grass" — it's just that certain types of tall grass cannot be cut. It's far less distinct from tall grass than many of the variants already covered on that same page.
- Also, I highly doubt people have been unable to find the information about cutting grass on the Cut page. Most people are going to expect to find the information on the Cut page or the tall grass page — very few people are going to search "Grass cutting" expecting a dedicated page to exist. (That's not an argument not to have such a page, but just a note that I really don't think splitting the page helps anyone find the information.) --SnorlaxMonster 10:59, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- I will not say much, except to bump this discussion before it reaches the 6-month mark. I support the move to the Tall Grass page for the reasons listed above. Dougbro1 (Talk) 16:25, 4 March 2025 (UTC)
