Tony and Steve

(Japanese: スティーブ Steve) and (Japanese: トニー Tony) are the assistants of Visquez, the stand-in Gym Leader at the Vermilion Gym while Lt. Surge is absent.

In the anime

In the anime, Steve and Tony are characters who appeared in Destination: Coronation!, with Tony also appearing in JN030. They are in charge of cleaning up the Gym after a battle has occurred. Tony also acts as referee during Gym battles, while Steve keeps track of Visquez's World Coronation Series ranking and potential challengers.

After winning a Gym battle, Visquez was eager to challenge someone participating in the World Coronation Series to improve her ranking. Steve announced that a challenger was nearby, which turned out to be Ash. During Visquez's battle against Ash, they watched the battles from the stands, as World Coronation Series battles are refereed by a Drone Rotom. Visquez ultimately lost the battle, and her rank subsequently dropped, much to the dismay of Steve and Tony.

In JN030, Tony had his own World Coronation Series match against Ash. He used his Electabuzz against Ash's Riolu but lost, causing his ranking to go down.
