Pombon (Japanese: ポムケン Pomken) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation X.

Along with Browt and Gecqua, Pombon is one of the three first partner Pokémon available at the beginning of Pokémon Winds and Waves. They were also the first Generation X Pokémon to be revealed to the public on February 27, 2026, through a Pokémon Presents video presentation.

Biology

Pombon is a short canine Pokémon with a large head, short limbs, and a curly tail. Its body is covered mostly in fluffy orange fur, though the front of its upper muzzle is light yellow, and the tip of the tuft of fur on its head and a oval patch of fur on its chest, right below its throat, are red. It also has black oval-shaped eyes, and a red nose and paw pads, which resemble the kanji symbol for fire (火).

Pombon is described to have an innocent, friendly temperament. Inside its lungs is an organ that generates heat, which causes the red area on its chest to glow slightly.[1]

Trivia

Origin

Pombon may be based on the Pomeranian dog breed.

Name origin

Pombon may be a combination of Pom (clipping of Pomeranian), bonfire, and possibly a play of pom-pom (decorative ball or tuft of fibrous material).

Pomken may be a combination of Pom (clipping of Pomeranian), 焔 homura (flame), and 犬 ken (dog).
