Narrative illustration (TCG Pocket)

A narrative illustration is a card illustration that features one part of a story, and continues the story onto other related cards. These are distinct from combined illustrations, which feature one illustration split across multiple cards.

Most of these groups of cards are part of dedicated Themed Collections. Several illustrations part of the same narrative are also created by the same illustrator.

List of narrative illustrations

Genetic Apex

Pidgey	Pidgeotto	Pidgeot
The illustrations on these cards are by Scav. These three cards depict a progression of Pidgey's evolutionary line sitting on the same tree branch.

Electabuzz	Magmar
The illustrations on these cards are by Ryuta Fuse. Both Electabuzz and Magmar appear to be punching in the opposite direction with blue electical sparkles and red flames spreading around them.

Bellsprout	Oddish
Venonat	Snorlax
The illustrations on these cards are by HYOGONOSUKE. The regular cards depict three Pokémon blocked on their path by a Snorlax. The illustration rare card makes clear that Snorlax is blocking the road on Kanto Route 12.

Machamp ex	Alakazam
The illustrations on these cards are by AKIRA EGAWA. Machamp and Alakazam seem to be fighting against each other, with Alakazam throwing rocks and Machamp destroying them.

Mythical Island

Mew ex	Budding Expeditioner
The illustration on the regular card is by Yuu Nishida and features a boy looking for Mew in a forest while the mythical Pokémon is right behind him, as seen in Mew's special illustration rare print, illustrated by HYOGONOSUKE.

	Drednaw		Joltik		Stonjourner		Weezing		Chatot
The illustrations on these cards feature various Pokémon in several places of Mythical Island. Mew appears in all of them while wandering or hiding in the background.

Flabébé	Floette	Florges
The illustrations on these cards are by Cona Nitanda. The red petals drift with the wind through the three cards depicting Red Flower Flabébé's evolutionary line.

Space-Time Smackdown

The illustrations on the regular cards are by Tomokazu Komiya and feature four legendary giants inside Snowpoint Temple; the four are also depicted in front of the temple's exterior in Regigigas's illustration rare print, by Tetsu Kayama.

Lumineon	Manaphy	Shellos
The illustrations on the regular cards feature Manaphy meeting other Pokémon while travelling through the sea; all five Pokémon are also featured in Manaphy's illustration rare print, illustrated by miki kudo.

Skarmory	Heatran	Heatran
Magcargo		Rhydon
The illustrations on the regular cards are by Oswaldo KATO and feature Pokémon in Stark Mountain with Heatran's footprints in the background; all four Pokémon are also featured in Heatran's illustration rare print, illustrated by OKUBO.

Cresselia	Darkrai ex
The illustrations are opposites and feature Cresselia and Darkrai at the window during their intervention in two children's dreams: Cresselia gifts a Lunar Feather to grant only good dreams, while Darkrai gives nightmares.

Weavile ex	Lickilicky ex
Both cards complement each other with their symmetrical composition, where the perspective presents either Weavile or Lickilicky from above, each in the midst of their contrasting hunting styles looking down at their prey.

Shining Revelry

Sprigatito	Floragato	Meowscarada
The illustrations on these cards are by mashu and depict Sprigatito and its evolutions surrounded by plants. Clovers and grass leave place to buds that finally turn into flowers.

Abra	Kadabra	Alakazam
The illustrations on these cards depict Abra and its evolutions in the same uncanny town at night. It seems that the clock on the tower behind Kadabra was then displaced by Alakazam.

Celestial Guardians

Oricorio	Oricorio	Oricorio	Oricorio
The illustrations on the cards are by Jerky. These cards depict all four forms of Oricorio dancing on the same beach during morning, afternoon, evening and night.

Cutiefly	Morelull
The illustrations on the cards are by kamonabe and feature two Pokémon arounda stump in a meadow. When one is active the other is sleeping, displaying that Cutiefly is diurnal, while Morelull is nocturnal.

Tapu Koko	Tapu Lele	Tapu Bulu	Tapu Fini
The illustrations on these cards are by OKACHEKE. These cards depict stylized drawings of all four of the guardian deities of Alola.

Celestial Guardians, Promo-A

Alolan Vulpix	Alolan Ninetales
The illustrations on the cards are by tono and feature the Alolan forms of Vulpix and Ninetales living in cold, snowy environments.

Wisdom of Sea and Sky

The illustrations on the cards are by Mékayu. The regular cards show three Pokémon with berries. The berries were delivered as presents by Delibird, depicted in the illustration rare card while harvesting them.

Chikorita	Cyndaquil	Totodile
The illustrations on the cards feature the three first partner Pokémon from Johto in traditional Japanese house settings, sharing a similar vibe.

Qwilfish	Stantler
The illustrations on the cards depict respectively Qwilfish and Stantler drawn in traditional styles inspired based on Japanese handscrolls.

Wisdom of Sea and Sky, Promo-A

Magby	Pichu	Cleffa
The illustrations on the cards feature three baby Pokémon from Johto while sleeping, sharing a similar vibe.

The illustrations on these cards are by rika. Both cards depict Latias and Latios flying together from two different perspectives, with the other one appearing in the background.

The illustrations on these cards depict Sprigatito and its evolutions roaming around the tiled roofs of a city during day, evening and night.

Space-Time Smackdown, Mega Rising

Hippopotas	Hippowdon
The illustrations on the cards are by Teeziro and feature Hippopotas and Hippowdon living in the sands of an arid, scorching desert.

Promo-A, Mega Rising

Luxray	Zeraora
The illustrations on the cards are by GIDORA and feature Luxray and Zeraora covered in lightning while they jump forward to attack with their claws.

Wailmer	Mega Gyarados ex	Frillish

The illustrations on these cards feature various Pokémon living in the sea or nearby. A menacing Mega Gyarados appears in all of the backgrounds, and in the immersive card its attack scares the four Pokémon, along with many others.

Maractus	Chatot
Palpitoad	Ludicolo
The illustrations on these cards are by Shimaris Yukichi. The regular cards depict Maractus, Palpitoad and Chatot making music. In the illustration rare card the three Pokémon meet Ludicolo, which dances to their music.

Crimson Blaze

Mega Venusaur ex	Spinarak	Mothim	Spritzee
Mega Venusaur spreads its aroma on its card's illustration, and Spinarak, Mothim and Spritzee are drawn to it, with Mega Venusaur visible in all three illustrations.

Charmander	Charmeleon	Charizard
The illustrations on these cards are drawn by DOM and depict Charmander and its evolutions living in the lab. Charmander gazes through the window, Charmeleon notices a flock of Starly and Staravia outside, and Charizard breaks free to fly alongside the Pokémon.

Fantastical Parade

Sinistea	Indeedee
Sinistea is hiding among tableware on its illustration, and comes out to help Indeedee in teatime preparations. Both illustrations are drawn by Saya Tsuruta.

Crimson Blaze

Trubbish	Phione	Empoleon	Empoleon
The first card shows a Trubbish left at a landfill site. On the next card, the abandoned Trubbish meets a Phione upon reaching a waterfront. On the last card, the Phione appears to have introduced the abandoned Trubbish to an Empoleon. The Trubbish appears to be enjoying itself riding on the Empoleon's back as it travels through the water.

Pulsing Aura

The illustrations feature Pokémon fighting in the Arena of Anitiquity.

References to the TCG

Genetic Apex, Fossil

Slowpoke	Slowpoke
The regular print Slowpoke takes its artwork from the Fossil expansion's Slowpoke, the first card of Miki Tanaka. After 27 years the author expanded that artwork in Genetic Apex's illustration rare, where more Slowpoke can be seen. The clouds moved, and the point of the tail of the central one has been changed to white to display the current design of the Pokémon.

Shining Revelry, Expedition

Magmar	Magmortar
The illustrations on the cards are by Miki Tanaka, which realized Magmortar's artwork referencing Magmar from the Expedition expansion, the same art reused in Shining Revelry.

Celestial Guardians, Sun & Moon

Sandygast	Alolan Grimer
The illustrations on the cards are by Akira Komayama, which realized Alolan Grimer's artwork staging it in the same place of Sandygast from the Sun & Moon expansion, the same art reused in Celestial Guardians.

Celestial Guardians, Burning Shadows

Alolan Rattata	Alolan Raticate
The illustrations on the cards are by nagimiso, which realized Alolan Raticate's artwork to match the one of Alolan Rattata from the Unified Minds expansion, the same art reused in Celestial Guardians.

Yungoos	Gumshoos
The illustrations on the cards are by Shigenori Negishi, which realized Gumshoos's artwork referencing Yungoos from the Unified Minds expansion, the same art reused in Celestial Guardians.
