Participating Pokémon Trainers start at Rank Z. By defeating other Trainers in Pokémon battles in battle zones and completing bonus cards found scattered throughout them, participants can earn Ticket Points. A participant can earn a Challenger's Ticket upon gathering enough Ticket Points, which allows them to take on a promotion match. Winning a promotion match increases the participant's rank. It is said that Trainers who reach Rank A may have one wish granted.
