In a flashback from before Courtney and Matt began to lose control, Steven meets with [[Professor Bellis]] to discuss the meteor that fell in the ocean by Pasio. Steven shares his theory that when the meteor hit, the natural energy lying below the sea erupted, causing Groudon and Kyogre to act out. He brings up the lore of the [[Draconid people]], and Zinnia’s belief that someone is using the energy for evil purposes. This reminds Professor Bellis of something she heard from a researcher about the possibility of a meteor colliding with the planet. Concerned, she plans to ask her researcher again.

She explains that its trajectory has suddenly changed, and it is now almost certainly going to crash into Pasio.

Differing Perspectives

At Team Magma's hideout on Pasio, Maxie addresses a group of Team Magma Grunts alongside Courtney and Tabitha. Courtney questions why they are not going after their enemy, Team Aqua, now that they have Groudon's power. Maxie cautions against it, as no one is able to know the full extent of Groudon's abilities. Courtney walks away from the others, wondering to herself if getting rid of Team Aqua would impress Maxie.

At Team Aqua's hideout, Archie is also speaking to his subordinates, standing with Shelly and Matt. Confused why they have Kyogre and are not attacking Team Magma, Matt addresses his concerns to Archie. Archie laughs that Matt is eager to fight, but reminds him that their ultimate goal is to create a perfect world for Pokémon. When the others leave, Matt wonders aloud if Archie has changed his ways, since coming to Pasio.

Ariana and Archer report to Giovanni at Team Rocket's hideout, telling him that a surge of natural energy has been detected at the bottom of the ocean. Giovanni is reminded of a legend in Hoenn, where Kyogre and Groudon had fought each other for energy from a fallen meteorite. He explains the legend to Ariana and Archer, and wonders more about what that energy could mean for his plans.

At the beach, Zinnia and Rayquaza notice a shooting star in the sky, and Zinnia wonders aloud what kind of wishes it is carrying.

Battle over Natural Energy

Wearing their sygna suits, Brendan and May fight with Wally against three Trainers in a tournament. The Hoenn Trainers win the battle, then compliment each other's skills. Before they can begin their next match, rumbling is heard, and it is announced that the tournament will be postponed due to a disturbance caused by Team Magma and Team Aqua. The group leaves to investigate.

In town, Team Magma and Team Aqua face each other as Groudon and Kyogre battle. While Maxie and Archie express confusion as the two Pokémon battle, Courtney and Matt are both determined to defeat the opposing side. Maxie and Archie attempt to recall their Pokémon, but they ignore their commands and continue to fight. Rayquaza soon flies down from the skies and attacks Groudon and Kyogre, breaking up the fight. To Maxie and Archie's surprise, Groudon and Kyogre run off.

Super-Ancient Pokémon and People

Courtney and Matt leave to look for Groudon and Kyogre, respectively. As Maxie and Archie wonder about Rayquaza, Zinnia enters. She explains that it protected Pasio from sinking as the two Legendary Pokémon fought.

May, Brendan, and Wally arrive at the scene. Shortly after, Steven, Paulo, and Looker do as well. Steven tries to figure out what happened, but both Maxie and Archie accuse the other's Legendary Pokémon of attacking their team. Zinnia explains that both Pokémon lost control of their power at the same time, and that Rayquaza sent them away.

When Maxie and Archie begin to doubt their own ability to take care of such strong Pokémon, Brendan angrily reassures them that they have both come far in their friendships with Groudon and Kyogre, saying that any Pokémon can be befriended. May and Wally agree with him, encouraging the others not to give up on the "potential of people and Pokémon." Brendan, May, and Wally set off to look for the Pokémon, amusing Maxie and Archie.

After they leave, Zinnia considers the "potential" the others spoke of. Steven determines the next course of action is to investigate why Groudon and Kyogre lost control. Before he can leave, Zinnia offers to give him a "special hint."

Justice Serving Beliefs

At a volcano, Courtney commands a group of Team Magma grunts to continue their search for Groudon. One of the grunts stays by her, claiming that he has just spotted Groudon. He suggests to her that she should use her sync stone to take the Pokémon under her control and use it against Team Aqua, saying it will make Maxie proud of her. After Courtney hears his explanation, she leaves. Once she is out of sight, the grunt removes his disguise, revealing Petrel.

Meanwhile at the shore, Matt receives a similar explanation from a Team Aqua grunt about how he can use his sync stone to control Kyogre. Eager to defeat Team Magma, Matt sets off to find it. After he leaves, Proton appears, revealing he was the one who suggested the idea to the grunt.

At the Team Magma hideout, Maxie and Tabitha, along with Looker and Paulo, wait to hear information about Groudon from the grunts. Looker asks Maxie about his past friendship with Archie, wondering why the two haven't managed to set aside their differences. Maxie tells him that there is no problem in fighting a former ally in order to pursue one's own ideology, stating that he believes Archie feels the same way. This prompts Paulo to think of his own friendship with the player, envisioning himself standing separate from them.

Uncontrollable Power

At Team Aqua's hideout, Zinnia visits Archie and Shelly, telling them that she suspects Team Magma and Team Aqua are being used. She explains that she believes Groudon and Kyogre's loss of control is related to whatever fell out of the sky by Pasio, and that there is someone taking advantage of this. She tells them that this sort of plan sounds familiar to her, and before she can elaborate, Archie's Poryphone begins to ring. From the phone, a Team Aqua grunt is heard announcing that Team Magma has found Groudon, before cutting themself off with a scream.

While surrounded by violet energy, Courtney commands Groudon to attack Team Aqua grunts at the volcano. May and Wally come to their rescue, with May and her Blaziken taking on Groudon as Wally escorts the grunts to safety. By the shore, Matt attacks Team Magma grunts with Kyogre—also surrounded by violet energy. Before they can take a hit from Kyogre, Brendan and his Latios jump in the way. He gives the grunts a chance to escape, but then notices a bright light coming from Matt's sync stone. Brendan wonders if the sync stone, in connection with Kyogre, is the reason why Matt is acting out of control.

The Meteor's Passenger

In a flashback from before Courtney and Matt began to lose control, Steven meets with Professor Bellis to discuss the meteor that fell in the ocean by Pasio. Steven shares his theory that when the meteor hit, the natural energy lying below the sea erupted, causing Groudon and Kyogre to act out. He brings up the lore of the Draconid people, and Zinnia's belief that someone is using the energy for evil purposes. This reminds Professor Bellis of something she heard from a researcher about the possibility of a meteor colliding with the planet. Concerned, she plans to ask her researcher again.

Later at the beach, Steven asks his Rayquaza if it is able to sense the meteor in the ocean. Suddenly, a Deoxys appears from the water and begins to attack Rayquaza. He tries to reason with Deoxys, but is forced to battle it. After they exchange blows, Deoxys flees back toward the ocean. As Steven wonders why Deoxys was going after Rayquaza, his phone begins to ring. Professor Bellis is on the other line, saying she just spoke with the researcher about the meteor. She explains that its trajectory has suddenly changed, and it is now almost certainly going to crash into Pasio.

Maxie and Archie

May and her Blaziken face off against Courtney and Groudon while Brendan and Latios take on Matt and Kyogre. Suddenly, Zinnia drops down from the sky alongside Rayquaza. She tells everyone to calm down, but Kyogre lands an attack on Latios.

Archie and Maxie enter and tell Courtney and Matt to stop fighting, but they do not listen. Zinnia is disheartened, but May and Brendan assure her that they are here to support her.

As Archie and Maxie watch the young Trainers, they decide it is not right for them to clean up a mess that the former are responsible for. They try to talk some sense into Courtney and Matt, who seem to want to listen to them, but their sync stones begin to glow and they both find themselves unable to control their own actions. He asks her to calm down Groudon and Kyogre so he can do this, as they would both be in his way. Zinnia agrees, and after Steven hangs up, Deoxys suddenly appears behind him.

As Zinnia, May, and Brendan continue their fight, both Archie and Maxie lament being unable to assist.

A Late Arrival

Paulo contemplates his journey as a Trainer so far, thinking of how he turned down Rosa's invitation for him to join their team. He remembers when he received a badge from Norman, and the series of losses in battle that followed.

Paulo snaps out of his thoughts when Rockruff cries out to him in confusion. Paulo apologizes to it, then tells it that he's willing to become more powerful than anyone. After he says this, an image of Giovanni appears in his mind. He begins to consider leaving Pasio to train, when a voice calls out to him.

Paulo is surprised to see Tina, a childhood friend of his. She explains that she just arrived on Pasio, and Paulo tells her about the PML is. She asks him how far he made it in the PML, and he says he only made it to the main tournament. To Paulo's surprise, Tina congratulates him for having defeated so many strong Trainers. When Tina is disappointed that she missed the tournament, Paulo tells her that Lear is planning on holding a second one. Tina asks Paulo to join her team, and before he can decline, the player enters.

Paulo introduces the player to Tina, then suggests that he and the player battle to teach Tina about what it's like to be a sync pair. The player defeats Paulo's Rockruff with their Pikachu. Paulo tells the player that they clearly won the PML because of their own strength, and is surprised to hear the player explain that they won because of their teammates. Paulo attempts to disagree, but Tina cuts him off to tease him for his dedication in becoming a strong Trainer. She encourages Paulo to spend time having fun with his Pokémon. She then suggests training together for the PML. Paulo tells her that he'll focus on having fun while he battles, but stops to wonder if that is truly what he wants. Tina interrupts him from his thoughts and suggests going out for food. Paulo then warns her about the "shady organizations" on Pasio, but Tina dismisses his worries. When Tina and the player leave, Paulo stays behind to think about the villains on the island.
