This name is not coined by me! Instead, it was used in various materials related to the anime: [https://www.facebook.com/MnctvOfficial/photos/team-rocket-musashi-kojiro-dan-miawth-kembali-beraksi-kali-ini-mereka-akan-berus/824682990918932/], [https://id.portal-pokemon.com/anime/series/s6/], [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENVW6wzqUL0].

I often struggle coming up with these names. Slaking is the opposite: I came up with ''so many'' names for this thing, and I had a hard time deciding which one I ultimately want to use. Other candidates include '''Kingkung''' (similar to {{wp|King Kong}}), '''Kingkang''' (also similar to King Kong; and also the name of a village in Central Java, apparently), and '''Kingkungkang'''.

An alternate name I had considered was "'''Terowonglu'''". Same etymology, it's just that the "terowongan" bit is more obvious. Ultimately I decided to go with "Terowelu" as it rolls off the tongue better.

The name "Vivillon" is so often mispronounced due to not many people knowing one of its root words ("papillon", French for butterfly, pronounced "papiyon"). Thus I decided to go with the Japanese spelling of the name.

DISCLAIMER: These names are not official. This is just something I'm doing for fun.
Welcome! This is my personal project, where I try to come up with Indonesian names for Pokémon. With more and more Pokémon media being translated into Indonesian (such as mobile games and TCG), I think it's a bit weird that they still use English Pokémon names instead of original Indonesian names.
Notes
- All names must fit the 12-character limit for Latin alphabet languages.
- Some names I decided to keep the same as, or transliterate from, the Japanese/English names. These names are usually for really iconic and well known Pokémon (eg. Pikachu), or legendary/mythical Pokémon (eg. Raikou). Or I just think the names do not need changing.
- Generally speaking, if a Pokémon's English name is the same as its Japanese, I will go and use the Japanese name as well.
- I will put notes on some of these entries, basically stating my opinions, putting alternate names I've considered, and whatnot.
Pronunciation guides
- Vowels: Vowels are generally consistent (with one exception)
- "A" makes a roughly open /a/ sound (as in "era").
- "I", "Y" make an /i/ sound (as in "bit", "rhythm").
- "SY" generally makes a "sh" or /ʃ/ sound.
- "U" makes an /u/ sound (as in "book", "full").
- "O" makes an /o/ sound (as in "host").
- "E" can make either an /e/ sound (as in "bed") or a schwa /ə/ sound (as in "berg"). It isn't generally indicated which pronunciation will be used, so figuring out which is which is a trial and error thing. E-acute always makes the /e/ sound, though (as in "Pokémon").
- "C" always makes a "ch" or /t͡ʃ/ sound. Example: Cabai (pronounced "cha-bai").
- "G" is always a hard G. (Soft G is just a J in disguise, anyway.)
- Exceptions to these: Loanwords in which the letters are pronounced differently (eg. "C" may make a "k" sound or an "s" sound if it's part of a loanword).

This name is not coined by me! It was actually created by the official localizers. Also, this name is weird. It was used a few times in official anime promos ([4], [5]) and once in the TCG, but otherwise it has never gotten more use. It's really weird that the localizers came up with a name but didn't seem to be interested in using it.
#0203 | キリンリキ Kirinriki |

"Jerapah" is the more commonly used Indonesian word for giraffe, but I went with "zarafah" because Z is a cool letter.

I often struggle coming up with these names. Slaking is the opposite: I came up with so many names for this thing, and I had a hard time deciding which one I ultimately want to use. Other candidates include Kingkung (similar to King Kong), Kingkang (also similar to King Kong; and also the name of a village in Central Java, apparently), and Kingkungkang.

#0658 | ゲッコウガ Gekkouga |
Greninja | Greninja |

Yeah, no change here. I just really like the name "Greninja"; it combines the French word "grenouille" (frog) + ninja and it's perfect.
#0659 | ホルビー Horubee |
Bunnelby | Galinci |
|
— | |
#0660 | ホルード Horudo |
Diggersby | Terowelu |
|
An alternate name I had considered was "Terowonglu". Same etymology, it's just that the "terowongan" bit is more obvious. Ultimately I decided to go with "Terowelu" as it rolls off the tongue better.
#0666 | ビビヨン Viviyon |
Vivillon | Viviyon |
Same as Japanese name |
The name "Vivillon" is so often mispronounced due to not many people knowing one of its root words ("papillon", French for butterfly, pronounced "papiyon"). Thus I decided to go with the Japanese spelling of the name.

An alternate name I came up with that ended up unused was Meringuguk, derived from French meringue (and the English translation of this mon's category as the "Meringue Pokémon" instead of "Whipped Cream Pokémon" like in the Japanese).

#0930 | オリーヴァ Oliva |
Arboliva | Zaithena |

I stole this idea from Arboliva's German name (Olithena). Incorporating Athena into the name is really clever.
