Actually...

This glitch DOES exist.... Sort of. The guy got a few steps wrong from what I can see, but it is extremely similar to a glitch detailed here. I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 10:47, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

But it really need to be cleaned up and catgorized first. MathijsP 10:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree completely. Cleaned up and categorized, yes. Deleted, no. I'm Missingno. Master, and I approve this message. 10:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Well mate, you are talking about the Celebi Trick at GlitchCityLaboratories. The Trick has been found by Paco81. His topic has now a size of 17 pages. I have been the one who translated the trick you are referring to into german. Have a look at page 16 at Paco81's topic. My name there is "Hundemon Despotar". But please, have a look at page 11 (if the forum is fixed), there you will find the Egg Trick. These Celebi Tricks are similiar to each other, I know. But the Egg Trick neither changes the Pokemon's name nor the ID number. This is why I prefer the Egg Trick. The Trick is working for 100% as it has been posted at GlitchCity (made by Paco81) and I succeded in doing in on german Crystal Version. If you like to style my article, please do that. But please do not delete it.Marcus Hubert 11:19, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

An admin will make the decission MathijsP 11:22, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I have structured my article. I hope you like it Marcus Hubert 14:32, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Erm...

I'm gonna go ahead and say this isn't what an article should look like. Should we put the {{cleanup}} tag on this page, or what? Crüsäder 16:10, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

I'd actually put that tag on, but Marcus Hubert removed it. I'm putting it back on. --Shiningpikablu252 16:35, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

If you mean this is not what an article should look like, why don't you improve it on your own? Marcus Hubert 16:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Please do not delete the part with the list of moves in other language. How can I load up a picture or a video to the article? I have read the instruction, but it still does not seem clear to me. Marcus Hubert 07:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

No Pokédex entry?

I heard that with the Celebi egg trick, you don't get a pokedex entry for Celebi. Is this true?

Also, does doing this cause any other side effects to the game? What happens to the 4 pokemon deposited in step 8 and the pokemon withdrawn in step 9? Do they get deleted or glitched up? Blueapple128 17:46, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

HM's

This article mentions a way of getting glitch items HM08 and HM09 in Gold/Silver. What do these non-existent HM's do? Are there moves tied to them in Generation II or does attempting their use break the game? I'm curious about these glitch items. ~ Male Gardevoir

I have a question about the link of HM08. In the article, HM08 is given a link, yet the link leads into a short article about HM08 in Generations III and IV without any mention of the fact that it is a glitch item. There should be mention of this fact in the article or a new article titled 'HM08 (Glitch Item)' should be made. I'm going to edit the original 'HM08' right now, but I don't mind if the edit is deleted. --Angrysmurf 03:55, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Attacks of hatched Pokemon?

According to some Gameshark codes for Pokemon GSC, everything about the egg is shifted back four slots in memory. This causes the third attack to shift to the Pokemon species, and the fourth attack to shift to the Held item. If this is true, then the hatched Pokemon's attacks should correspond to its ID number and the first four bytes of its current EXP.

Like this: The hatched Pokemon's ID number used to be 54321. In hexadecimal this is 0xD431. So the hatched Pokemon has its first two attacks as 0xD4(Mean Look) and 0x31(Fury Attack). The hatched Pokemon used to hatch with 125 EXP (at Level 5). In hexadecimal this is 0x00007D. Taking the first four bytes only, it has no third or fourth attack because they are at 0x00 (blank).

I don't want to put this in the article because I can't test it myself. If someone could test this, that would be great. Blueapple128 00:44, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Extra touches...

I signed up here to mention that there are still a couple of flaws in this article, mostly clarity, that caused me a lot of trouble/experimentation whilst attempting this glitch in order to obtain the GS Ball. Normally I would have made the edit immediately, but because I haven't currently the ability to test the latter half of my assumptions personally it seems like a better idea to bring it up under the Discussion first.

Before anything I recommend making ?????'s role a bit clearer, either in this article or in its original article. I made at least 8 bad clones before finding out that I was doing it correctly, and they were indeed bad clones. I was able to successfully complete the glitch with one of them. I cloned a female level 10 Magikarp and the result was a level 0 female Magikarp with an EMPTY (no question marks) name space. Its name on the Stats screen was ????? and, when withdrawn, was shown as a single question mark. I imagine it would be beneficial to those who have never done this glitch before if this were a bit more specific in the article, as I had assumed that the clone with the empty namespace was not a bad clone because no question marks appeared in its name in the PC box. You also may have noticed my mentioning that both the prototype and the bad clone were female - either this disproves that the bad clone is always the opposite gender, a bad clone is always female, it depends on the species of Pokemon, and/or it works differently in Gold/Silver than it does in Crystal.

I used this glitch in Silver version using two Ledybas with the moveset Comet Punch, Supersonic, Swift and Reflect, which was supposed to result in a Magikarp holding a GS Ball which I could then use to encounter Celebi normally. Unfortunately I wasn't aware that the GS Ball didn't exist in Gold/Silver, and instead got a Teru-Sama. I'm not sure which one in particular, but it appeared in my Use item slot and had no effect when speaking to Kurt. I theorize I may be able to turn it into/use it as a GS Ball if I trade a pokemon holding it over to Crystal version, but I can't confirm this at the moment - the important thing here is to either define in the article that this glitch is meant specifically for Crystal version or, preferably, since this glitch can be used for species and items other than Celebi, note that Reflect only gives you the GS Ball in Crystal and the Teru-Sama in Gold/Silver. If you can trade this item over to Crystal and use it as a GS Ball, this would probably be of note as well. In any case, I've done my part. Xelrog T. Apocalypse 22:46, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Technically, it works the same, it's just that the GS Ball wasn't implemented in GS, which means that the hex slot used for the GS Ball in Crystal was a simple Teru-Sama in GS... and even if you get the GS Ball using this method, the bit that makes Kurt check your inventory for it isn't active... so, tough luck for the GS Ball method.

Big fix

Can this article have a complete do over, so instead of telling the player how to get Celebi, it tells the player how to get and choose the Pokémon you can get from this glitch. We should go into detail, like how Old man glitch isn't about how to get Missingno. with a sub-section for others, or Item duplication glitch for Rare Candy. --SnorlaxMonster 10:29, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Or...

Instead of leaving Celebi in the daycare until level 2, couldn't you take it out at level 1 and perform the Experience Underflow glitch to get a level 100 Pokémon? higejolly 12:07, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

Rare Candies

Having two Rare Candies when performing the glitch and giving them to the L0 Celebi enables it to be used normally on the go and it also allows for the Celebi to learn all 4 starting moves (Confusion, Leech Seed, Recover and Heal Bell) at L1. This has been tried by myself and it's confirmed to work. Rush2802 23:11, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Alternate method

After learning more about the trick and trying special things, I have managed to come up with another solution into getting a Celebi and anything else you may have been wanting to obtain. You can find it here including the other posts I made. It includes a couple of video footages so hopefully this "will obsolete Paco81's method since this one is more easier and safer; it doesn't involve ????? and the usage of 7 Pokemon in your party." ☆ smbcha 11:09, 22 March 2013 (UTC) ☆

The article states that its the only way to obtain Celebi. What about this method? Gold/Silver: Yet another Celebi glitch, using Coin Case arbitrary code execution - YouTube TorNyan (talk) 20:39, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Impossible Pokémon

The article states "Ledyba would not be obtainable in this way", although isn't this true of several other Pokémon?

Since there are no Pokémon that can be bred to have Softboiled, Lovely Kiss, Transform, Aeroblast, or Sacred Fire (for example), wouldn't that make Jolteon, Aerodactyl, Articuno, Natu, and Piloswine respectively impossible to obtain with this trick as well? Sakura-Fox512 (talk) 20:09, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

You could theoretically get those moves onto breedable Pokémon by use of other glitches, then breed them. But... are you sure Softboiled and Lovely Kiss can't be bred? You can't hatch a Chansey with Softboiled as its 3rd move, or a Smoochum with Lovely Kiss? - Xelrog T. Apocalypse (talk) 18:04, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Theoretically, but the article already states that "[...]Ledyba would not be obtainable in this way without using a second potential glitch, as Struggle is unobtainable normally as a move.[...]" If there are others, then they should potentially be identified and noted on the article. --Super goku (talk) 19:11, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that Struggle could be added as a permanent move even with the use of glitches. - Xelrog T. Apocalypse (talk) 16:43, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Something

It's just a question, but is the 3rd way discovered not recent? I want to know because I remember reading this article 6 months ago saying that the 3rd way is recent (it still says that) and I wanted to change that part.

Can item "HM10" be got via this glitch?

I'm not sure about it, but this page tells me that they can be got. But in fact, there are only 251 moves in Gen II games, which means I can't get an egg whose fourth move's ID is above 251. So maybe I'm wrong, maybe that page is wrong? ——xzonnGuestbook) 14:30, 11 October 2016 (UTC)

Since nobody replied me, I'll change that page. But if I'm wrong, please tell me. Maybe there're only few players who play Gen II games.——xzonnGuestbook) 04:36, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but I just saw this. Looking at List of glitch moves, moves with index numbers 253-255 seem to be available to glitch Pokémon, and I think these can be carried over to Gen II, so I've restored that. I'm not sure about HM10 (index number 252), but there might be a method I am not currently aware of as well. Nescientist (talk) 10:45, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
That's right, but did you notice that that page is about glitch moves in Gen I games? The only glitch Pokémon in Gen II games are ?????s and Glitch Egg, and neither can learn a glitch move. Besides, I never succeed in trading Gen I glitch Pokémon to Gen II games, so I think there is no way to get an egg whose third move's ID is above 252. Maybe you are wrong.——xzonnGuestbook) 14:33, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Of course there is a possibility that you are more of an expert on that subject than me. What I do know is that there's the Time Capsule exploit, and that the glitch moves all have an "In Generation II" column. Nescientist (talk) 15:04, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm just a player who loves Gen II games more.
I do know "Time Capsule exploit", and I did see the "In Generation II" column, but that doesn't mean players can get an egg which can use a glitch move. As you can see in "Egg Move", if one move can be got by a Pokémon in egg, the move must be an Egg Move first. But as glitch moves, these glitch moves can't be in the egg move list. So that's why I say "there is no way to get an egg whose third move's ID is above 252".——xzonnGuestbook) 04:52, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
I think so. My knowledge on the Celebi glitch is a little rusty so I may be mistaken somewhere, but when you perform bad clone glitch exploits, you can remove the FF terminator from your party by using "move w/o Pokémon" to obtain seven Pokémon. Afterwards, depositing a Pokémon will shift one byte in a party Pokémon's data structure upwards. The ID number follows on from move 1-4 and the item held precedes move 1; so if the Trainer ID byte 1 is FC (64512-64767) depositing five Pokémon would give you a HM10 as the held item. Depositing that Pokémon once would give you the move HM10. --Chickasaurus (talk) 14:54, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
I mean glitch move FC, which would have a glitchy name such as w?zzRä Z. in Crystal or a blank name in Gold/Silver, sorry. --Chickasaurus (talk) 15:27, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
I see. It seems I'm wrong, so I will correct it in Chinese wiki. But I still have a question: can I use this glitch to get a glitch Pokémon such as ?????s and Glitch Egg? There ID is also above 251 except ?????(00), so I thought they can't be got, but as you said, "depositing a Pokémon will shift one byte in a party Pokémon's data structure upwards", so maybe I can get them? Looking forward to your reply.——xzonnGuestbook) 04:50, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

HM slave Pikachu

I want to adapt this to create a surfing, flying Pikachu I can use as a HM slave. As far as I'm aware, in Generation II only one Pokémon can learn Surf, Fly and Mega Kick, and it can't breed (why no Dragonite?), so I need to use Smeargle. The question is which Pokémon in that game have those moves so that Smeargle can sketch them. Any advice? Or am I in the wrong place entirely?--Tmwps (talk) 10:59, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
