Synopsis
Plot
Wattson and his Manectric disappear beneath the waves after being attacked by Amber's Shedinja. When Winona flies in to help with Altaria, Ark blocks her way, and his Sharpedo's Taunt prevents Altaria from obeying Winona's commands. She admits that the SSS trio have excellent teamwork, and Angie reveals that 'SSS' stands for 'Subleaders of the Sea Scheme.'
spoilers
Flannery cries out in horror as Wattson and his Wattson sink into the water. Winona attempts to try and save Wattson, but her Winona refuses to listen to her commands. Aqua Admin blocks her way and reveals that he had his Sharpedo use Taunt on Altaria, making it unable to listen to its Trainer. Although annoyed at this kind of tactic, Winona praises the SSS' teamwork. Shelly thanks Winona for the compliment and reveals that SSS stands for Subleaders of the Sea Scheme.

Enraged by the loss of Wattson, Flannery orders her Vulpix to attack Angie, but another attack blocks them, and then Razor Leaf tears across both Flannery and Vulpix, Stun Spore choking them afterwards. Angie explains that this is Ludicolo's Nature Power attack, which changes its effect depending on the location it's used in. Angie says that Team Aqua's noble goal of expanding the sea will require some sacrifices, including the Gym Leaders, but that they will be well remembered for their bravery.
Enraged, Flannery orders her Vulpix to attack Shelly, but is stopped by an attack that comes from the water. Flannery assumes that it's the work of another Pokémon, but Shelly reveals that it's the effect of her Ludicolo's attack, Nature Power. Shelly explains that depending on the terrain, Nature Power can be attacks such as Razor Leaf, Hydro Pump, or even Shadow Ball. Shelly states that her Nature Power comes directly from the sea and points out that Team Aqua wants to raise the sea because all life came from it.

Meanwhile, at the Lilycove City museum, Brawly and his Machoke face off against Magma Admin Mack. Flames fill the museum, badly burning Machoke and preventing Brawly from even seeing his opponent. A combination of Leer and Revenge manages to knock out one of Mack's Slugma--or so Brawly thinks, until he realizes it was only an illusion. Another illusion of a lean-faced ghost woman grabs Brawly from behind, and he and Machoke panic, running through the museum as the paintings seem to come to life and reach out for them.
Shelly states that in order to achieve Team Aqua's noble goal, sacrifices are inevitable. Shelly commands another attack from her Ludicolo, and states those that have been sacrificed will be remembered in history.

Mack appears before them, saying it won't be easy to break through his illusions, and that all he really needs is for Brawly to not interfere while Groudon destroys Hoenn. Brawly, however, refuses to give in. He explains that he's a master of jū, the principle of turning an opponent's own attacks against them, but that this only works against an opponent who attacks head-on. To counter an opponent like Mack who doesn't fight directly, he must use a technique he picked up from an old friend: the secret of gō! Brawly sends out his Hariyama to use Fake Out, which startles Mack's two Slugma enough to let Hariyama pound them repeatedly with Knock Off. As Hariyama drives the Slugma back, Brawly invokes the name of the friend who taught him the way of gō: Bruno of the Kanto Elite Four.
At the Lilycove Museum, Brawly and his Machoke face off against Blaise. Due to the intense flames, Brawly has trouble seeing his opponent and is easily hit by a sneak attack. The attack burns Brawly's Machoke, but he still continues to attack his opponent. The attack hits Blaise's Slugma, but it quickly disappears, revealing it to only be an illusion. Annoyed, Brawly steps back near a painting of a woman, which suddenly springs to life and begins grabbing him.

The two are instantly freaked out, and begin running through the building as more paintings spring to life. Brawly tries to calm his Machoke down, but it's too scared to listen to his words. Blaise confidentially tells Brawly to give up, as it won't be easy to stop his illusions, but Brawly refuses to stop fighting. Brawly reveals that through training, he mastered Jū, a fighting style that turns the attack of an opponent into an attack against them.

Brawly pulls out a pair of nunchucks, and states that when fighting an opponent that doesn't fight head on, he has to use a different style. As Brawly spins his nunchucks, he reveals that he met with an old friend prior to the battle he is currently in. He reveals that the friend taught him another fighting style, Gō; one that is the opposite of Jū. Brawly sends out his Brawly and has it stun Blaise's Slugma with Fake Out, allowing it to repeatedly attack them with Arm Thrust. As he prepares one more attack, Brawly calls out to the friend that helped him: Bruno.
