Pokémon world routes

Route 24 is a north-south route north of Cerulean City, linking the burg with Route 25 to the north. Most of Route 24 encompasses the Nugget Bridge, a location where five trainers will challenge the main character one by one and, upon defeating every trainer on the bridge, a disguised Rocket Grunt will reward the main character with a Nugget and then offer the main character a position in Team Rocket; however, the player automatically refuses and fights the grunt.

In Generation I and Generation III, the Rival will ambush the main character for a battle south of the bridge.

Route description

The actual southern terminus of the route is at the southern extent of the bridge. Route 24 follows the length of the bridge north, running parallel to an express path to the east that originates on Route 25, allowing trainers to travel from Cerulean Cape to Cerulean (but not vice versa) quickly.

At the northern end of the bridge, the route opens up at a virtual three-way intersection. To the west is a long, narrow strip of land that contains Route 24's lone patch of grass containing a trainer and wild Pokémon. This location also serves as the docking platform for a water body that leads to an otherwise unaccessible portion of Route 4, as well as Cerulean Cave northwest of Cerulean.

To the north of the bridge is a small plateau containing a variety of items and people, with the actual contents varying not only by Generation, but also by game version. In Generation I, TM45, containing Thunder Wave, is found here. Additionally, in Pokémon Yellow, a non-battling trainer is found here, offering his Charmander to any trainer that will provide better care for him. In Generation II, no items are present; however, a tree containing a hidden item is present. Finally, in Generation III, TM45, now holding Attract, is found here.

Southeast of the plateau, Route 24 turns to the east and becomes Route 25.

In the Pokémon Special manga

Route 24 makes its debut in a short appearance in ...But Fearow Itself!. It has a forest and mountains and is possibly where Red meets Bill as a mutated Rattata.

Differences among generations

In Generation II, the Nugget Bridge trainers are no longer present. Instead, the challenge has moved to Route 25. Also, the grassy area along the narrow strip of land has been reduced by half, allowing the lower portion to become a grass-free docking station.

In Generation IV, Route 24 is the same in length as in Generation II. Also, the trainers on the Nugget Bridge are no longer present and have moved their challenge to Route 25. The only major change is the bridge is above the water, allowing players to travel underneath the bridge. There is also a tiny strip of land in front of a fence that goes along the path to the right of the bridge.
