Dragon Vault (Japanese: ドラゴンセレクション Dragon Selection) is a sub-set released during the Black & White Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. In Japan, the set introduced the Dragon type to the TCG. It was released January 27, 2012 and contained 20 Holofoil cards.
Description
Open the Vault and Let Loose the Dragons... for the Very First Time!
The vault echoes with the roar of Dragons—can you train what you find within? Inside the Pokémon TCG: Dragon Vault, you'll discover a treasure trove you've never seen before! You'll find incredible Dragon Pokémon such as Rayquaza and Druddigon—ALL of them foil!—in special 5-card booster packs, plus a code card to unlock hoards of rewards for the Pokémon TCG Online. So, when you open the vault, be prepared to command the might of these powerful Dragon Pokémon!
Information
The English release was October 5, 2012, four days before the start of the North American Autumn Regionals. This caused much controversy due to the possible introduction of new cards into the Modified Format days before such a high leveled Premier Tournament; however, the collection was not made legal in Modified Tournament Play until October 15th, 2012—one day after the end of the tournament. Much like the Japanese set, Dragon Vault contained all Holofoil cards. However, the English release adds 1 card—Kyurem—as a secret card, originally handed out as one of the BW-P Promotional cards in Japan at the Battle Carnival Spring 2012: World Challenge Tournament. All Dragon Vault packs contain 5 cards instead of the regular 10, and were available in Dragon Vault Blisters.
