Dawn's Pachirisu (Japanese: ヒカリのパチリス Hikari's Pachirisu) was the second Pokémon captured by Dawn, and her third Pokémon overall. Its voice actress in both English and Japanese is 西村ちなみ Chinami Nishimura.

History

Dawn captured Pachirisu in Twice Smitten, Once Shy. It was shown to have a very hyperactive and mischievous personality. It loves to have fun with Dawn and her other Pokémon. On multiple occasions it has given Dawn a bad hair day by using Discharge.

Dawn and Pachirisu

Due to its behavior and her inability to control it, Dawn felt that she had failed Pachirisu as a Trainer and released it. However, she realized her mistake and went back to get it, only to find that Jessie also wanted it. It managed to defeat Team Rocket and Dawn recaptured it.

At the beginning, Pachirisu had difficulty in controlling its electric moves, but after training with Dawn it was gradually able to use them effectively. This could be seen in its first contest where it was used in the appeal round of the Floaroma contest. It earned Dawn a place in the battle rounds. It was also used in the Hearthome contest double appeal rounds with Piplup. However, this time Dawn was not able to make it past the appeal round.

Pachirisu became ill in Doc Brock! from storing too much electricity, similar to Pikachu, but it soon recovered.

Pachirisu helped Dawn win her fourth ribbon in Another One Gabites the Dust! with the help of a new move, Super Fang.

In DP138 it battled Johanna together with Piplup.

Trivia

  • Dawn's capture of Pachirisu marks the first time a main character has ever caught an Template:Type2 Pokémon (Ash received his Pikachu), and it is the first Electric-type owned by a main character besides Pikachu.
    • Notably, both of these Pokémon are based on a species of rodent.
  • For Ya See We Want an Evolution!, Professor Oak's lecture is about Dawn's Pachirisu. He writes this Pokémon senryū about it: パチリスが おめめさめたよ パッチリス Pachirisu ga, omeme sameta yo, pacchiri su "Pachirisu woke up, eyes shining bright."
  • In the dub of Steamboat Willies!, it was revealed that Pachirisu was the youngest of Dawn's Pokémon. However, Brock's Happiny was the youngest Pokémon, having hatched just one episode before, before losing the title to Cyndaquil, who hatched in DP143.
  • Pachirisu is currently Dawn's only Pokémon whose voice is not changed in the dub. Buizel also kept his Japanese voice, but Dawn no longer owns him.
  • Pachirisu seems to be almost a parallel to May's Skitty.
    • Both were the third Pokémon obtained by their trainer.
    • Jessie had her heart set on catching them and using them for contest purposes.
    • Both share a similar attitude and habits. These would include chasing their tails, having a lot of energy, and running away from their trainers.
    • Both use their Japanese voice actresses in both the Japanese and English versions.
  • Pachirisu's illness in Doc Brock! is similar to that of Ash's Pikachu in Get the Show on the Road!.
  • Pachirisu is Dawn's only Pokémon that is not part of an evolutionary line.
