Camouflage (Japanese: ほごしょく Camouflage) is a non-damaging Template:Type2 move introduced in Generation III. It is the signature move of Staryu in this generation.

Effect

Camouflage changes the Pokémon's type to a type corresponding to the battlefield terrain.

  • If Camouflage is used on grasslands or water puddles, the user becomes a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • If Camouflage is used on sand or marsh, the user becomes a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • If Camouflage is used on rocky surfaces and caves, the user becomes a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • If Camouflage is used on or under water, the user becomes a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • If Camouflage is used on snowy fields or ice, the user becomes an Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • If Camouflage is used on a plain terrain or a building floor, the user becomes a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

In contests, the appeal points earned depends on the appeal points earned by the preceding Pokémon. If it was three or below, the user gets double the appeal points. However, if it was greater than three, the user receives no appeal points.

Trivia

  • Kecleon is able to blend in with its surroundings with its ability Color Change. However, it is unable to learn Camouflage. This is possibly because Color Change would likely change Kecleon's type just after it had used Camouflage.
