This is an instruction manual that addresses the conventions adopted by Project Manga specifically regarding notability of Pokémon that appear in various Pokémon manga. If there are any unresolved disputes over what best adheres to the style of this, please contact the Project Leader, Zesty Cactus.
General conventions
- In general, for a Pokémon to get its own article, it should have a significant impact on the plot. Pokémon owned by main characters should generally appear on a reoccuring basis.
- In the case of cross-canon characters who have a signature Pokémon consistently across canons, such as Whitney's Miltank, the information should be added to this existing page. Otherwise, cross-canon characters should have their Pokémon added to the character's main page. The exception to this is if the Pokémon appears only in manga, yet still has a significant impact on the plot, e.g. Ash's Fearow.
- Pokémon from manga series not mentioned below will be treated on an individual basis.
Specific manga
Pokémon Adventures
- Starter Pokémon that are owned by any of the main characters (Such as any character named after said games, Wally, Cheren, and Bianca) are all notable, provided they have appeared in more than one chapter/round. If they have not met this criteria, then they would have to have a significant impact on the plot of the chapter/round, manga series as a whole, or a certain arc.
- Other Pokémon owned by main characters are notable, provided they have appeared in more than two rounds and had a significant impact on the plot of the round, manga series as a whole, or a certain arc. Such as: Critical to the advancement of the plot, character development of some kind, and so on.
- For recurring characters, only their signature Pokémon may have an article. Otherwise, they would have to have a certain impact on the plot of the chapter/round to be notable. Exceptions to this rule can be made for either side.
Pokémon Pocket Monsters
- Starter Pokémon that are owned by any of the main characters (Such as any character named after said games) are all notable, provided they have appeared in more than one chapter.
- Other Pokémon owned by main characters are notable, provided they have appeared in more than two chapters and had a significant impact on the plot of the chapter, manga series as a whole, or story arc.
Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Adventure!
- Starter Pokémon that are owned by any of the main characters (Hareta, Mitsumi, Jun, Koya, etc.) are all notable, provided they have appeared in more than one chapter.
- Only Pokémon owned by main characters who are have important parts of the plot and get character development outside of battle are notable.
Anime manga adaptions
- For the anime-based manga series The Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash and Pikachu and Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl, all information should be added to the Pokémon's anime counterpart's article in its own section. This also applies to all movie manga adaptations
- If the Pokémon did not appear in the anime, an article may only be created if it was owned by a main/recurring character, has appeared in more than two chapters and had a significant impact on the plot of the series, e.g. Ash's Fearow.
Magical Pokémon Journey and Pokémon Chamo-Chamo ☆ Pretty ♪
- As most Pokémon in Magical Pokémon Journey and Pokémon Chamo-Chamo ☆ Pretty ♪ were major characters that interacted as much as the human characters (Hazel, Almond, Apricot, Peanut, etc.), many of them are considered notable for their own articles. However, that does not mean each Pokémon that appeared in the series deserves its own article - only the ones who were main characters or had a significant impact on the plot.
Pokémon Get da ze!
- Only Pokémon owned by main characters (e.g. Shū) who have important parts of the plot and get character development outside of battle are notable.
Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys
- Generally, only Pokémon owned by Gold, Chris or Black should be notable for their own articles. Not all their Pokémon necessarily merit their own articles, either - only Pokémon they use often and/or have impacted the plot significantly. As this is a shorter manga series, much of the information can be condensed into the articles of the Trainer which owns the Pokémon.
Pokémon 4koma
- Generally, as 4Koma manga are gag-based, most Pokémon that appear don't have a significant impact on the plot and should generally be merged with their human Trainer's article, when applicable. Specific cases will be addressed on an individual basis.
