This article contains an item known as the "Secret Key", related to Rotom. For the item used in Kanto to open the Cinnabar Gym, see here and here.


This is a list of all key items that are found in Generation IV. Please note that some of these are also part of the list of key items in Generation II due to Pokémon Gold and Silver being remade, and several appear in multiple generations.

Some items are specific to a certain region, while others can be found in both Johto and Sinnoh. Those that can be will be indicated.

Apricorn Case

Bag Azure Flute Sprite.png Azure Flute

  • Japanese: てんかいのふえ Heaven Flute
  • Purpose: Plays a melody that's beyond this world; opens the stairway to an Arceus in the Hall of Origin.
  • Description: A flute that puts out echoing sounds that do not seem to be of this world. It is unknown who made it.
  • Location: Available only by Mystery Gift event.

Bag Bicycle Sprite.png Bicycle

  • Japanese: じてんしゃ Bicycle
  • Purpose: Allows for faster travel than walking or running. Players can press B to change between the two gear settings.
  • Description: A folding Bicycle that enables much faster movement than the Running Shoes.
  • Location: Given away by the owner of Rad Rickshaw's Cycle Shop in Eterna City after saving him from Team Galactic.

Bag Coin Case Sprite.png Coin Case

  • Japanese: コインケース Coin Case
  • Purpose: Used for storing Coins from Veilstone Game Corner.
  • Description: A case for holding Coins obtained at the Game Corner. It holds up to 50,000 Coins.
  • Location: Given away by a clown in Veilstone City.

  • Japanese: ひきかえけん1・2・3 Vouchers 1, 2, and 3
  • Purpose: Coupons needed to obtain the Pokétch.
  • Description: A coupon to be exchanged for a Pokémon Watch (Pokétch for short). Three coupons are needed.
  • Location: Each of these is given out by a different clown in Jubilife City. They all have the same description, and function, but each has a different design on the ticket. They do not need to be collected in any specific order.

Bag Explorer Kit Sprite.png Explorer Kit

  • Japanese: たんけんセット Exploration Set
  • Purpose: Used for going into the Sinnoh Underground.
  • Description: A bag filled with convenient tools for exploring. It provides access to the Underground.
  • Location: Given away by the Underground Man in his house in Eterna City.

Bag Galactic Key Sprite.png Galactic Key

  • Japanese: ギンガだんのカギ Team Galactic's Key
  • Purpose: Opens the door to the Team Galactic HQ in Veilstone City.
  • Description: A card key for disengaging security systems in the Galactic HQ. Losing it can result in punishment, apparently.
  • Location: Found in the basement of Team Galactic HQ.

Bag Gracidea Sprite.png Gracidea

  • Japanese: グラシデアのはな Gracidea Flower
  • Purpose: Transforms fateful encounter Shaymin from Land Forme to Sky Forme.
  • Description: A flower sometimes bundled in bouquets to convey gratitude on special occasions like birthdays.
  • Location: Floaroma Town; requires an event Shaymin in the party (Platinum only).

Bag Good Rod Sprite.png Good Rod

  • Japanese: いいつりざお Good Fishing Rod
  • Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. Better than the Old Rod.
  • Description: A new, good-quality fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild aquatic Pokémon.
  • Location: Given away by a Fisherman on Route 209.

Bag Journal Sprite.png Journal

  • Japanese: ぼうけんノート Adventure Notebook
  • Purpose: Records limited notes on daily gameplay. It is brought up automatically when returning to the game after 2 or more days have passed without making a new save.
  • Description: A notebook that keeps a day-to-day record of your adventure so far.
  • Location: Given out by the player's mother in Twinleaf Town.

Bag Lunar Wing Sprite.png Lunar Wing

  • Japanese: みかづきのはね Crescent Moon Feather
  • Purpose: Used to cure the sailor's son's nightmares in Canalave City.
  • Description: A feather that glows like the moon. It is said to possess the power to dispel nightmares.
  • Location: Left behind on Fullmoon Island by Cresselia after it flees.

Bag Member Card Sprite.png Member Card

  • Japanese: メンバーズカード Member's Card
  • Purpose: A 50-year old key for accessing the motel in Canalave City; allows access to battle a Darkrai.
  • Description: A card needed for entering the inn in Canalave City. Oddly, the last date marked on it was 50 years ago.
  • Location: Available only by Mystery Gift event.

Bag Oak's Letter Sprite.png Oak's Letter

  • Japanese: オーキドのてがみ Ōkido's Letter
  • Purpose: A letter from Professor Oak to be taken to Route 224; allows access to battle Shaymin.
  • Description: A letter from Prof. Oak. Written in it is a request for you to go to Rt. 224.
  • Location: Available only by Mystery Gift event.

Bag Old Charm Sprite.png Old Charm

  • Japanese: こだいのおまもり Ancient Omamori
  • Purpose: Cynthia asks the player to deliver this to Celestic Town. It is made from Pokémon bones.
  • Description: An ancient good-luck charm made of Pokémon bones to be taken to the elder of Celestic Town.
  • Location: Given away by Cynthia on Route 210.

Bag Old Rod Sprite.png Old Rod

  • Japanese: ボロのつりざお Worn-out Fishing Rod
  • Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water.
  • Description: An old and beat-up fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild aquatic Pokémon.
  • Location: Given away by a Fisherman in the gatehouse between Jubilife City and Route 218.

Bag Pal Pad Sprite.png Pal Pad

  • Japanese: ともだちてちょう Friend Notepad
  • Purpose: Stores Friend Codes of other players.
  • Description: A convenient notepad that is used for registering your friends and keeping a record of game play.
  • Location: Given away by the attendant in the basement of Oreburgh City's Pokémon Center.

Bag Parcel Sprite.png Parcel

  • Japanese: おとどけもの Parcel
  • Purpose: A package to deliver to the rival. It contains two Town Maps, one for him, and one for the player.
  • Description: A parcel entrusted in your care. You are supposed to deliver it to your childhood friend who left Twinleaf Town.
  • Location: Given away by the rival's mother in Twinleaf Town.

Bag Poké Radar Sprite.png Poké Radar

  • Japanese: ポケトレ Poké Trace
  • Purpose: Locates hidden Pokémon in the grass; requires 50 steps to charge after use.
  • Description: A tool that can search out Pokémon that are hiding in grass. Its battery is recharged as you walk.
  • Location: Given away by Professor Oak in Sandgem Town when the Sinnoh Dex has been completed.

Bag Seal Case Sprite.png Seal Case

  • Japanese: シールいれ Seal Container
  • Purpose: Stores the Seals collected or bought during the game.
  • Description: A case for storing Seals that can be applied to the capsule cases of Poké Balls.
  • Location: Given away by a woman in Solaceon Town.

Bag Secret Potion Sprite.png SecretPotion

  • Japanese: ひでんのくすり Secret Medicine
  • Purpose: Cures the headaches of the Psyduck who were blocking the upper section of Route 210.
  • Description: A fantastic medicine dispensed by the pharmacy in Cianwood City. It fully heals a Pokémon of any ailment.

  • Japanese: ひみつのカギ Secret Key
  • Purpose: Opens up a secret room at the Galactic Eterna Building, containing five appliances necessary for a Rotom to change between its six forms.
  • Description: A high-tech key that has to be used at a specific location. It emits a special electric signal to open a door.
  • Location: Available only by Mystery Gift event (Platinum only).

Bag Sprayduck Sprite.png Sprayduck

  • Japanese: コダックじょうろ Koduck Watering Can
  • Purpose: Used to water planted Berries. If watering is done correctly, the resulting Berry trees will have higher amounts of Berries to pick and store.
  • Description: A watering can shaped like a Psyduck. It helps promote healthy growth of Berries planted in soft soil.
  • Location: Given away by one of the workers in the Pick a Peck of Colors Flower Shop.

Bag Suite Key Sprite.png Suite Key

  • Japanese: ルームキー Room Key
  • Purpose: Someone staying at the Hotel Grand Lake is looking for it; return it to her for a Lava Cookie.
  • Description: A key to one of the suites at the luxury hotel by a lake. For some odd reason, it often disappears.
  • Location: Route 213, hidden.

Bag Super Rod Sprite.png Super Rod

  • Japanese: すごいつりざお Amazing Fishing Rod
  • Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. Best Rod of all.
  • Description: An awesome, high-tech fishing rod. Use it by any body of water to fish for wild aquatic Pokémon.
  • Location: Given away by a Fisherman in the Fight Area.

Bag Town Map Sprite.png Town Map

  • Japanese: タウンマップ Town Map
  • Purpose: Displays a map of Sinnoh and the player's current location. Details of routes and cities can be accessed by the touch screen.
  • Description: A very convenient map that can be viewed anytime. It even shows your present location.
  • Location: Contained in the Parcel. Will be shared with the player by the rival, as there are two.

  • Japanese: バトルレコーダー Battle Recorder
  • Purpose: Allows the player to record and replay battles, and send them over Nintendo Wi-Fi. Stores information on the player's Battle Points and the rewards obtained from defeating Frontier Brains.
  • Description: An amazing device that can record a battle either between friends or at a special battle facility.
  • Location: Given away by Looker in Jubilife City (Platinum only).

  • Japanese: バトルサーチャー Battle Searcher
  • Purpose: Allows the player to challenge Pokémon Trainers more than once; requires 100 steps to recharge after use.
  • Description: A device that indicates Trainers who want to battle. Its battery charges while you walk.
  • Location: Given away by Rowan's assistant on Route 207.
