(Japanese: ポッチャマ Pochama) is a Water-type Pokémon. Along with Naetle and Hikozaru, it is one of the three starter Pokémon available at the beginning of the Generation IV games.
Pochama comes with the ability Torrent, which increases the power of Water-type attacks by 50% once the Pokémon has less than one-third of its maximum HP.
Pochama evolves into Pottaishi at Level 16 and into Enpeturo in the mid-30 levels.
Name origin
Pochama may be derived from 坊っちゃま botchama, meaning child, with the P perhaps coming from penguin. It may also be based on ぽちゃぽちゃ pochapocha, which means either splashing in water or having a plump appearance.
Pochama is based on a baby penguin.
In the anime
Hikari has a Pochama as her starting Pokémon. Her Pochama is voiced by 小桜エツ子 Etsuko Kozakura
