(Japanese: ドキドキ！オレンジアカデミー How Thrilling! Orange Academy) is the 46th episode of Pokémon Horizons: The Series, and the 1,278th episode of the Pokémon anime. It first aired in Japan on April 12, 2024.
Plot
In her house at Cabo Poco, Liko wakes her Pokémon up for a new day, recalling how she had recently returned home and reunited with her parents following her and her friends' decision to learn more about the Terastal phenomenon. After breakfast, she and her mother Lucca head out, parting ways as they reach Los Platos, from which Liko and Floragato continue on to Mesagoza. At the city's main square, she reunites with Roy and Dot, who are already wearing their Naranja Academy uniforms, with Roy also noting how Liko is wearing her Indigo Academy uniform. Terapagos peeks its head out of Liko's bag, and she explains that she decided to take it along to avoid leaving it alone in case someone noticed it. As they arrive in front of Naranja Academy, Roy insists on taking a group photo to commemorate the occasion. Though Dot requires some persuasion, the photo is eventually taken.
Liko, Roy, and Dot move on to the director's office, where they meet Clavell, the director of the academy, and Geeta, the chairwoman of the school board. At Clavell's request, Geeta turns on a video showcasing the academy's Terastal Training course, which is a curriculum solely dedicated to teaching academy students from all around the world about the Terastal phenomenon, which is uniquely found in Paldea. This phenomenon is somehow linked to Terastal energy, which manifests itself in the form of crystals found around the region, which Liko also recalls seeing near her house, though many mysteries still surround it. Trainers are able to utilize this phenomenon with their Pokémon thanks to Tera Orbs, which are exclusively for Trainers permitted to use them by Paldea. Geeta presents each of the three children with their own Tera Orb, which they are happy to receive. Clavell asks why each of them wishes to know about the Terastal phenomenon. Roy answers that there is a strong Pokémon that he wishes to rechallenge, Liko says that there is a place that she wishes to find, and Dot expresses her wish to solve the mysteries of the world. With the motivations revealed, Clavell explains the basics of their Terastal Training curriculum: after learning about Terastallization, the students must travel around Paldea and battle its Gym Leaders to pass the course. Just when Clavell intends to send them to their classroom with the escort of their student council president, said person suddenly enters the room, revealing herself to be none other than Nemona. She's happy to see Liko and Roy again, presents them with her newly evolved Pawmot, and also greets Dot, who's left shaking by the presence of a Champion-ranked Trainer. Clavell is surprised to learn that they already know Nemona, with Liko explaining how they previously met in Artazon. Both Roy and Nemona are eager to battle each other, like they promised during their last meeting, but Clavell interrupts them, asking Nemona to show them around the school first, much to her dismay.
During the group's guided tour around the academy, they run into the academy's art teacher, Hassel. A woman named Rika appears from behind him and greets the children as well. Roy asks Dot if they're supposed to know them, causing her to incredulously inform him that these two are members of the Paldea Pokémon League's Elite Four. Noticing Liko, Rika recognizes her as a student from Indigo Academy and wonders if she could be a Trainer capable for holding her own at the Pokémon League. Ignoring Liko's flustered response about still being new to all of this, she wishes the Indigo Academy representative good luck. Liko, not having previously realized she is representing Indigo Academy at this school, resolves to do her best as a representative. This encounter leaves Nemona and Roy fired up to battle again, but the school bell interrupts them, forcing them to once again delay their promised confrontation.
Liko, Roy, and Dot's first class is a Battle Studies lesson, taught by Dendra. She takes her new students to the schoolyard and has them exercise by doing arm thrusts alongside her and her Hariyama while she explains the specifics of the Terastal Training course. The Gym Leaders will give each of them two tests, basics and implementation, to make sure they are using Terastallization correctly and worthy to use their Tera Orbs. Moreover, students are not permitted to have Terastal battles with each other during this course, only being allowed to gain more experience about it from the Gym Leaders, who are assigned for each of them by the academy based on their individual aptitudes. The first part, the basics test, involves battling with their assigned Gym Leader. With the explanation complete, Dendra concludes the exercise, which has left Liko and especially Dot completely exhausted. They're then approached by Jacq, the biology teacher, who sends the children an app with information about the curriculum and tells them to take videos and photos while they're out there traveling in preparation for a report later, before taking his leave. The three children check their app to see which Gym Leader each of them has been assigned with: Liko learns that she'll be battling Katy in Cortondo, Roy is excited to get another chance at facing Brassius in Artazon, and Dot is left flustered upon learning that she has to face her idol Iono in Levincia. Dendra concludes the lesson, but as they're heading back inside, Liko is surprised to see none other than her classmate Ann walking by.
The children sit down to talk. Ann reveals that she came here for the Terastal Training course, just like Liko, who introduces Ann to her friends. Liko and Ann are both happy notice that their respective first partner Pokémon have both evolved, and Ann decides to challenge Liko to another battle, which she gladly accepts. As they move to the battlefield, Liko can't help but reminisce about their first battle back at Indigo Academy, where her Sprigatito fought Ann's Oshawott. Dendra, working as the referee, starts the battle. Liko tells Floragato to use Magical Leaf, which Ann's Dewott counters with Water Pulse. Dewott tries to hit Floragato with a flurry of Razor Shells, but Floragato dodges them all and takes some distance to her opponent before using Quick Attack. Ann tells Dewott to throw its scalchops, and while Floragato dodges them both and manages to land her Quick Attack, one of the scalchops loops back around and hits the unsuspecting Floragato in the back before returning to its owner. The hit leaves Floragato open for a super-effective Aerial Ace from Dewott, which is observed by Poppy, Rika, Hassel, Larry, and Penny, who have come to watch the battle. While Floragato recovers from the hit, Liko gets an idea and tells her partner to use her flower bud to stop Dewott from moving. Ann has Dewott dodge the incoming bud with Detect and go for another Razor Shell, but the bud loops back around and knocks the scalchop out of Dewott's hand before it can execute the latter command, leaving it defenseless against another Magical Leaf flurry, which is enough to defeat Dewott and make Liko the winner of the battle. As the two friends promise to battle again and grow stronger, Geeta joins the Elite Four in observing the scene, feeling happy about the flourishing connection between the two schools. Nemona suddenly bursts into the schoolyard, wanting to have a battle too, but yet again, she's denied by the school bell, leaving her dismayed once more.
At the entrance hall, Liko, Roy, and Dot receive their camping equipment and prepare to head out. Since Cortondo is the closest one out of their three destinations, they decide to head there first, making Liko the first one of them to have to take on a Gym Leader. Just as Clavell prepares to send the students off, the front doors burst open to reveal Coral and Sidian, dressed up as students and apologizing for being late. Sidian introduces them with the fake names of (Japanese: オニギリ Onigiri) and (Japanese: サンドイッチ Sandwich), causing Coral to start laughing at how pathetic the fake names sound, but she still follows through with them. Clavell can't find their names on his list, but Chalce, dressed up as a teacher, claims there must be an error in the database and says she'll take care of the two new "students". Liko, Roy, and Dot, recognizing the two Explorers admins, set off on their journey, wondering what those two could be up to.
Elsewhere, Orla has started repairing the damaged Brave Olivine, though there's a lot of work to do, as she informs Friede when he shows up. After reading a message from Liko, Roy, and Dot about the start of their training course, Friede tells Orla that he intends to follow a hunch he has and leaves the airship in her hands. He returns to a hotel and opens a briefcase, revealing Lucius's belt inside it and musing that he doesn't intend to fall behind, either.
