Marcus (Japanese: ギシン Gishin) is a character in Arceus and the Jewel of Life. His Japanese voice actor is Koichi Yamadera.

Marcus lived in ancient times and commanded Pokémon fitted with magical armor. This armor forced the Pokémon into complete obedience, similarly to a Dark Ball.

He came to resent Arceus due to his belief that it would allow Michina Town to return to being a ruined land if it reclaimed the Jewel of Life. This led Marcus to become the driving force behind Damos's apparent betrayal of it. By using his Bronzong's Hypnosis, he was able to control Damos and force him to attack Arceus while not returning the Jewel of Life. He is shown to be extremely cunning, easily changing his plans when Sheena informs him of future events, and maintaining his composure even when his Bronzong and Heatran break free of his control and turn on him.

In the first chain of events, Marcus and Damos apparently fell to their deaths when Arceus counterattacked against them viciously. Once history was altered and Marcus's plan was thwarted, he went on to work under Damos.

Contents

In the manga

He hypnotized Damos using his Bronzong's Hypnosis into attacking Arceus. Using the Jewel of Life, Marcus planned to destroy Arceus and become a god himself.

Pokémon

This listing is of Marcus's known Pokémon in the anime and manga:

Controlled

Bronzong
Marcus's Bronzong

Bronzong was instrumental in Marcus' plan to destroy Arceus. By hypnotising Damos, Marcus forced him to betray Arceus and refuse to return the Jewel of Life. However, Bronzong was not acting under its own will, but was being controlled by special armor. Eventually, Damos' special ability to touch the hearts of Pokémon made Bronzong realise what it was doing, and, after the armor was destroyed by Piplup's Peck, Bronzong turned on Marcus and helped defend the trainers that had rescued it.

Bronzor's known attacks are Gyro Ball, Flash Cannon and Hypnosis.

Heatran
Marcus's Heatran

Heatran, like Bronzong, was also forced to obey Marcus against its will by special armor. Heatran was also very powerful and also, like all Heatran, had the ability to walk on walls and ceilings with ease. Heatran was forced to battle against Ash and Dawn, but eventually realised what it was doing thanks to Damos, and it allowed Pikachu to destroy its armor with Iron Tail. Heatran then turned on Marcus along with Bronzong.

Heatran's known attacks are Protect, Fire Spin and Hyper Beam.
