Vanillish (Japanese: バニリッチ Vanirich) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Vanillite starting at level 35 and evolves into Vanilluxe starting at level 47.

Biology

A "bald" Vanillish with a melted snow covering

Vanillish is a Pokémon with a large, white, rounded upper body with swirled snow on top, overall resembling a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone. Its eyes are dark blue with small ice crystals at the sides. Vanillish has a dark blue mouth, two ice crystals below its mouth, and stubby limbs that resemble icicles. It has a pointed lower body that resembles a large icicle.

Vanillish lives in southern, snowy mountains, which it migrated to during an ancient ice age. It creates ice inside its body by drinking water and then expels it to hide itself or freeze opponents. Its icy breath can reach temperatures of −148 °F (−100 °C). It can shatter frozen opponents with powerful headbutts. Vanillish are smaller in hotter regions, and although it can refreeze its body despite melting, this process can leave its appearance warped.

Evolution

Vanillish evolves from Vanillite and evolves into Vanilluxe.

(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

In Thawing an Icy Panic!, a Vanillish and Vanilluxe were looking for a Vanillite who had gone missing. They created a big snowstorm in Coumarine City in the process of the search.

Minor appearances

A Vanillish appeared in Performing with Fiery Charm!, under the ownership of a Performer. In Master Class is in Session!, it was used in the Master Class Pokémon Showcase in Gloire City. In Performing a Pathway to the Future!, Vanillish was seen watching the same Showcase.

Trivia

  • According to Game Freak, Vanillish and its evolutionary relatives were designed by James Turner.[1][2]

Origin

Vanillish is based on a soft serve ice cream served in an ice cream cone, with snow for the scoop and ice for the waffle cone.[2] The 'cone' itself also resembles an icicle.

Name origin

Vanillish may be a combination of vanilla and delish (slang term for delicious).

Vanirich may be a combination of vanilla and rich.
