During the planning and development stages of Pokémon Platinum, several things were going to be a part of the games, but many things did not make it to the final games.
{{game|Platinum}}, like other solitary versions of the [[core series]] games, contains less pre-release information because it is based on the previous paired versions of the [[Generation IV|generation]]. Likewise, few things changed in comparison to {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}.

During the planning and development stages of {{game|Platinum}}, several sprites were going to be a part of the games. As Pokémon Platinum has a different sprite set from that of {{v2|Diamond and Pearl|s}}, some sprites were dropped or changed since the early screenshots of Pokémon Platinum. Before the game was released, there are pictures from Coro-Coro Magazine that showed a prototype sprite for {{p|Shaymin}}'s Sky Forme. This was soon dropped and redesigned for the final version. Another sprite of [[Giratina (Pokémon)#Trivia|Giratina]] was also shown in several early screenshots of the game. Also, the coding of Pokémon Platinum has different sets of sprites for Shaymin's Land Forme, which are not accessible during normal gameplay.

The {{si|Battle Tower}}'s exterior matches the one at the {{Gdis|Battle Frontier|IV}}, including the lack of shadow, and the building's warps have been removed. The prize lists in the Exchange Service Corner are unchanged and are visually the same as the ones at the Battle Frontier's {{DL|Battle Frontier (Generation IV)|Exchange Service Corner}}. The Battle Park's [[gate]] was replaced with the Battle Frontier's gate but the [[non-player character]]s remain unaltered given their positioning in the map; their events as well as the warps inside the gate have also been removed.

The event where the player first meets [[Palmer]] is still present. The [[Razor Fang]] also remains.
It has been discovered that various items still remain in the coding of Platinum that were also in {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}. These items can be obtained using Action Replay and other means of [[cheating]], but cannot be used. They are:


*[[S.S. Ticket]], that allows entry for the luxury liner [[S.S. Anne]] (a possible [[List of cross-generational references|reference]] to {{2v2|Red|Green}} or {{2v2|FireRed|LeafGreen}}).
====Distortion World====
*[[Contest Pass]] that would allow entry into {{pkmn|Contest}}s. However, {{pkmn|Super Contest}}s allow entry without a pass.
There are 9 unused maps of the [[Distortion World]] in the data of the game's ROM. They use the regular camera angle and not the special one used in the final Distortion World.
*[[Magma Rock]] would be a mystical item that could be used in [[Stark Mountain]]. Although it hasn't any known purpose, it is possible it would have something to do with the {{p|Heatran}} event.
*[[Red Chain]] is a creation from {{p|Uxie}}'s, {{p|Mesprit}}'s and {{p|Azelf}}'s crystals. Its purpose was to control {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}} without reducing their true power. [[Cyrus]] actually himself uses the item in-game, and it's possible that the [[Team Galactic]] event at [[Spear Pillar]] was initially to be activated by the player.
*[[Rule Book]] was a book that would be used as a guide when using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It's possible that this was removed since these guidelines were contained in the games' instruction book.
*[[Seal Bag]] held up to 10 [[Seal]]s, but was replaced with the [[Seal Case]].
*[[Treasure Sack]] was meant to hold treasures from [[the Underground]]. It was replaced with special selections for the Underground.  


In addition, coding for the [[List_of_key_items_in_Generation_IV#Point_Card|Point Card]] still exists in the game. Though normally unavailable, it can be obtained through hacking, and surprisingly will still function despite the fact that [[Battle Points]] are tracked by the [[Vs. Recorder]].

Pokémon Platinum, like other solitary versions of the core series games, contains less pre-release information because it is based on the previous paired versions of the generation. Likewise, few things changed in comparison to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

Garchomp's earlier sprite

A prototype front sprite of Garchomp can be seen in an early Japanese trailer for the game, titled Pocket Monsters: Platinum—Game Introduction Movie (Japanese: ポケットモンスタープラチナ:ゲーム紹介ムービー).[1]

Battle Park

The Battle Park in Platinum

In Pokémon Platinum, the Battle Park appears as a leftover map in the internal data. It has index number 0x0142, like in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

The Battle Tower's exterior matches the one at the Battle Frontier, including the lack of shadow, and the building's warps have been removed.
